I used to take art lessons in my early teens, and one of our small class's subjects was a bust of Michaelangelo's David. Our instructor pointed out - and it became obvious to us when she did - that each of our individual renderings of David bore at least some small resemblance to the artist that drew it. Like a hybrid of each student's self-portrait with the image of David. I'm still not sure what accounts for this, other than the supposition that for each of us, our own likeness is the one example of the human form we see often enough, and are familiar enough with, for it to become a subconscious standard. Whether we realize it or not, we all fill-in the details of what we see with what we think we know.

That is funny with the raccoons. On Vancouver Island the Conservation officers will get calls about bears on property. Their response, "you planted fruit trees beside the bear habitat, what did you expect would happen, no bear cage trap for you"

I always thought the " You Got Mail" voice was synthesized... Wasn't the woman who did the voice of " Mother" in " Alien" sort of like that? Everyone had heard her voice, but no one knew who she was.. My nextdoor neighbor fed a possum that became mega possum...it had to have weighed twenty pounds. The franken-jellyfish... there's the plot for a low budget horror movie in that...

A lot of new development causes raccoon displacement, and relocation. Some of the raccoons we used to remove clearly knew what the cage was and what the routine was. It is likely that relocated raccoons get relocated more than once. They will resume finding garbage, or porches to live under, barns, and most certainly have conventions to locate reliable food sources. They smell what the others have eaten, and join the gang. I bet this lady lives in or near an area that has been receiving relocated raccoons. It is always VERY cute and fun in the beginning. Then , it all goes dark when scarcity hits. In NYS, we are not allowed to harbor any raccoon in any cage or structure at ALL. Even with a license, it is illegal because it took decades to get them back to reasonable numbers. Thus, the peanut squirrel case was definitely more about the raccoons than the squirrel. Prevention is the key.

Not sure if raccoons have a gathering as such... but I'm pretty sure that they can realize and either communicate or infer when there is an easy food source around. A bit surprising about the sudden jump though. Might there be more than one initial family? and now they all decided to go there at once? Or has some other food source dried up suddenly?

I friend of mine loved the raccoon's scientific name Procyon lotor, insisting that since it is so much more of a cool name than Homo Sapiens, somehow the raccoons must have blackmailed Linneaus into doing it.

Hi fran! Kitsap county resident here! So tickled to hear you mention us! Coincidentally my family has also been feeding a few raccoon family's for a few decades now too. while 100 sounds insane to me i'm not surprised. Our feedings can often get up to 7-8 raccoons at once 😂 washington and has lots of woods and forests even in the suburbs.

my guess about how a small family group became 100's might be connected to family and time all the original group made other families with other raccoons who were all shown the great food source. The food source both regular and plentiful and decades of time a some what social animal without real predation can become too many

Regarding the AI painting - at least that million plus gets back into the system, gets spread around a bit - and yeah, I get that money sitting in investment, in a round about way, gets spread around too, but unlike many other opinions I've heard over time, it's fine by me, for example, if Oprah buy or builds 100 houses for herself, that puts people to work and drives manufacture spreading that money - by the same token, providing hand outs has never worked over the long term - so it's ok by me that Elon doesn't want to feed the world - all of us should help with those problems, not some single rich entity.
