it is a song by France Gall. It was released as a single , taken from the album Babacar released in April of the same year. Written and composed by Michel Berger, (his boyfriend) the song is a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, it is also a protest song against racism and an anthem for empowerment.

France Gall was married to Michel Berger (deceased in 1992), the french composer of the song "S.O.S. d'un terrien en détresse" whose cover by Dimash made him famous. I'm not sure I ever consciously watched the video when I was younger. I suspect not, as I was completely surprised to see Joe Jackson in it. An absolutely amazing musician who was classically trained before he started making popular music in the late 70's. I chose the term popular music because it is at home in different genres and therefore cannot be assigned exactly. And don't confuse him with the Jackson 5's deranged father, who shares the same name...
