It seems to me that the African countries have made their feelings towards France quite clear, they want no part of France the 'ex-colonial power'; Fair enough, I respect that choice, but as with all choices there can be plusses and minusses, that is what international relations are all about. French has no good record of Colonialism. I think most of us French would agree with that. However many African people have chosen to live (as citizens) in France, OR have accepted French troops in the fight against extremists, in which many French trrops have lost their lives. Africa generally has adopted an antagonistic attitude towards France, fair enough their choice, but you can't have it both ways. You want (or don't want) to be French? OK that's your choice and no argument from me, but it is hard to reconcile that with still being aggressively anti-French as so many African countries now are, whist still expecting to be accepted as citizens of that country. It is simply not logical. African countries are no longer Colonial subjects, oppressed by white French. Totally understandable that there should be long-standing resentments against the French, but no country on this earth is going to look favourably to aggressive anti-attitudes towards it. It is hard to see what African States bring to France, except cost. Again this is part of the price of Colonialism, but that era is past. Love or hate France is always a matter of choice for former colonial states, but in the latter case it is hard to justify the physical support presence that France has provided in recent times. Africa is leaning towards Russia and China, and again fair enough - their choice. However I see no reason at all now as to why France should be held to ransom in any way for the sins of their forebears. Africa, as you have declared openly, does not want France either as an Ally or helper, and even possibly as an investor. It is the choice of the African states, and probably not all of these agree, but as I say you can't have it both ways. Many ofyou have insulted our President, not because of his performance, but purely as one of a former Colonial power. Not good. Make you minds up. Part of the overall international world, or part of Chiness/Russian zoning. Entirely up to you, but as I have repeated, you can't have it both ways. At this moment I see no economic advantage to France in accepting the insults loaded upon us for past behaviour. Africans obviously feel different. I have not seen any anti-African rhetoric here in France, but plenty on the opposite side. Again, fair enough these are your countries, but really don't expect any favours in return.

And Mayotte never bece independent, Mayotte and the comes held a referendum in the seventies, the Comores island voted to become independent and Mayotte to become an overseas territories. Then like about 10 years ago they held another referendum whether or not to to become a department and Mayotte voted yes so....

But France didn't like the final results, so it chose to only recognise the one island where the results were in its favour, that's not how referendums work. Even the UN recognises it as part of Comoros. From 1976 to 1994, the United Nations adopted 18 resolutions. Each of them refers to the Resolution 1514 (XV) of 1960, thus reaffirming and asserting Comorian sovereignty over its fourth island of Mayotte.

Well you failed. In Mayotte people want to be French and this has already been demonstrated in 9 referendums. The only place in overseas France where the independence movement is strong is in New Caledonia, then in the rest it is either weak or non-existent.

I think you need to make a better representation. I suspect that the Mayotte people do not want to be part of the Comorian Islands, and you know the reasons very well. In fact, I think France would have preferred it if Mayotte had chosen differently. Now it is costing the French and European taxpayers millions and millions, which we can no longer afford. Seeing all the "brave" appeals for African unity and self-reliance below, I wish you all would take yourselves seriously and try to convince your own people to stay in Africa rather than become a burden to European countries. You've omitted key background information here. Comoros didn't become independent at the same time as other French colonies in Africa, they remained under French control until 1974 when France held an independence referendum and Mayotte was the only island that rejected independence. So everyone got what they asked for in the end, Comoros became independent and Mayotte seceded to remain under the French. Comoros doesn't have the right to disregard the sovereignty of other countries.
