As an American, I still get upset daily that McDonalds and Disney has somehow become representative of our entire culture. It's like saying Carrefour is somehow entirely representative of France. Or the Oil Company BP defines Britain. The same mindset that has resulted in Americans thinking Great Britain is all Toast Sandwiches and bad teeth, and France is all Baguettes and Snobbery is the same mindset that has reduced America to a plate of cheap burgers and fries that are barely food, especially when compared to the same dish prepared by a competent chef rather than a depressed teenager. That being said, beautiful countries gents. I would love to visit sometime. Those lakes in particular looked like good places to visit. Though I might stay out of Paris and London. Too many people and (particularly) tourists. Makes things overcrowded, and harder to enjoy in my opinion.

Paris has become the capital of a third world country, forget the capital of lights and love, it's gone now just like the rest of French culture. The only good thing left are the monuments, castles, cathedral, landscape, basically anything that isn't modern. It makes me sad that when people think of America they only think of either Northern state culture or southern state culture. The United States is a big place and has many groups of people within it. People either think we are all Dixie cowboys or rich Yankees but there are many people in between. We have influence from many cultures that has led to a variety of building styles and cuisines you can find all over, especially in minority communities like little Italy or Chinatown.

@@legacymse7095 Even though I think that some of the decisions and actions taken by European politicians have affected their countries in a negative manner (after all Bowl made that joke about Boris Johnson and not Churchill for a reason), I think calling them 3rd world when they still have access to basic necessities like food, water, shelter, basic medical care and not dying from the bubonic plague on a semi-regular basis, means they still have quite a few more screw-ups to go before we can degrade them to that status. If that were the case, all of America would be a 3rd world country simply because a few of our largest cities and states are managed by people who are corrupt, and ok with human refuse piling up on some of the most crowded and toured streets. In addition, I also must have missed the part where I country being 3rd world suddenly makes it ugly, so even if that was the case, what does that have to do with the conversation? I would genuinely like to hear an explanation.
@MikeStudios08
@MikeStudios08 2 жыл бұрын
@@dylanwillmon5672 For sure. There are so many varieties and cultural groups within the US, and even most Americans tend to ignore it until you point it out. But no one sane would say a Cajun Crawfisher and Georgia Peach Farmer are the same culturally. Calling a New Yorker and someone from Jersey the same in any manner, let alone culturally will result in your looted corpse showing up in the Hudson. Despite both Utah and Colorado sharing a mutual love of the outdoors, particularly when it comes to winter sports, I don't really think it's a hot take to say Aspen and Park City are definitely not the same thing. And most States, particularly in the west, actively try to avoid having a culture that even remotely resembles the culture in So-Cal. Including a fair portion of Southern Californians. Not even to mention the various native cultures that exist. Whether it is the Hawaiian, Cherokee, or Navajo, the Native American cultures were extremely distinct, and still are today.

Fair enough. On a side note, screw French strikes. I went to Paris in the middle of January 2020, and half the touristic places were closed or unavailable. It was bad enough having Notre Dame under restoration (understandably), but waking up at 6 AM (in Spain we get up at 7-8 AM on working day, so that's pretty jarring for us already) to visit the Louvre only for it to remain closed due to strikes really took the cake. It took four attempts in four consecutive days only to watch Mona Lisa, an overrated painting the sfumatto" of which is just grime the museum refuses to clean. Plus the closed underground lines, buses that came every 30 minutes, and having any plans ruined because of a lack of public transport (lines changed everyday, so no way to plan ahead), overcrowded places and reduced visiting hours everywhere.

The two ships I remember visiting were the Cutty Sark and the HMS Belfast, both 10/10 ships. Though if you want the true British experience, go to the London Eye, then the London Dungeons, then the aquarium next to it (all three of these places are literally next to eachother btw). Then if you have time, visit one of our many great museums. We have several iconic ones to choose from, including the iconic Natural History Museum. And that’s not to mention our historic and iconic theatres, true works of art where Shakespeare once performed his plays.

Great video again, FC. Also, if you don’t mind sharing, can I ask about your choice words about “American romance” at the beginning? That was pretty heavy condemnation. (Also I’m pretty sure it was Japanese tourists who were the catalyst for ‘Paris Syndrome’ but I could be wrong).

Personally I think both countries are fantastic, but I would KILL to visit Japan in my life. It’s one of the oldest countries in the world and is simply breathtaking to look at. Things like Osaka Castle, The Arashiyama Bamboo Forrest, Mount Fuji, The Island Shrine of Itsukushima and many more are just breathtaking to see. It’s sad that most people just associate it with anime (I live in America, but boy I hate it) when it’s so much more.

I think China may be more interesting to visit (and cheaper) Good food, better landscape, better monuments, good culture and they are developing their tourist attractions a lot ( soft power you know). But it's like France or Italy even if you take a lot of time it will be hard to visit everything at once and there are a lot of restrictions due to covid. Southeast Asia is very good also for its price and the people are nice .

Looking at the comparisons. I think it maybe because British architecture is over represented but a good deal of the palaces and other fancy vistas to look rather plain. French architecture certainly holds a great degree of majesty in its architecture and its mountainous terrain. England on the flipside holds a far more relaxed, cozy and rustic vibe. The last word by no means is an insult. The countryside is indeed gorgeous and comfy in comparison to France. Meanwhile in America you gotta head really far west to experience beautiful nature that even compares. The big cities have just deteriorated really bad since the 60s.

I used to live in Paris when I was little. And while I was there, my mother would take me and my brothers to looong walks through the city while explaining to us the centuries's old history behind the buildings and the monuments we were seeing. From the most forgotten statues in dark squares to the world known monuments. And even though I didn't pay attention at the time, I'm really grateful to her when I think back at it. And the way you were describing the beauty of our capital (even though some places in Paris are shitholes) truly reminded me of her. Your video reminded me that I'd like to visit the world someday, it must have so much places with breath taking sights and history to deliver...

It's debates like this that make me wonder how the other people in the server react when they come online and find 25+ minutes's worth of arguing. In any case, both France and England have a lot of great places that never get mentioned when you visit! Like, one of my teachers once said something along the lines of "France has been reduced to Paris in the eyes of foreigners." You just don't hear nearly enough about the other beautiful places. Also, this debate has made me look up some pretty places in my own country, so thanks for that!

Awesome video, loved to see the beautiful places. But if it all came from "mean people, awesome food" vs "nicer people, terrible food", then y'all should come to Brazil. We are a welcoming people who like to treat outsiders nicely, and our food is just awesome. A continental country where you can see different biomes, know very different cultures, and taste many types of cuisine, all really well-made. Just don't come to Rio, you may get shot

I wanted to add: I will side with Faux on this one. France is infinetly more interesting. I wasn't in Paris, but I was in Nice and Montpellier. Just those two cities are infinetly better than entirety of London. In London, only Buckingham palace was interesting, but besides that... nah man. London may have rich history but I feel it's lost it's way somewhere. Way before brexit even, it felt so.. fake, like it was trying to show off instead of actually be interesting. I feel like Bowl didn't really show any arguments as to why I should visit England again. Don't get me wrong, the guy is great and all, but taking a serious look at this conversation, seeing how Faux gave most of the worthwhile things to see /JUST IN PARIS/ and seeing Bowl reach out of London to pull ANYTHING to have argument against Faux, was really eye opening and I should visit Paris asap.

This video made me miss Europe so much. As an Air Force kid who grew up in Germany, I spent my whole childhood touring all over the place, including some of the places in this video (Mount Saint Michael is absolutely stunning, btw) and after moving to the states, the loss of history and culture was immediately noticeable. Not to say the states don’t have anything, but as part of our history involved tearing down historic cities to make way for ugly roads because of our obsession with cars, we lost a lot of what we have. Although I can thoroughly recommend both of the countries discussed in this video, I have to say that Germany has probably just as many landmarks and beautiful sights (Both man-made and natural) so Caffeina probably won’t have to even go far to see some amazing things.
