Ukraine EU status will take a long time. However, so will Ukraine reconstruction take a long time. Changing Ukrainian currency into Euros should only happen after most of Ukraine is rebuilt. This will limit the punitive part of currency conversion.

Ultimately Ukrainian reconstruction will be paid for by Ukraine. The railroad part will have to be fronted by the US and EU. Part of this will be returned via contracts with US and EU suppliers. Ukraine will have to float bonds. But the bonds will be paid off by the work of Ukrainian people. Some of it will be iron exports of melted down Russian armor vehicles and missile debris. Other exports will be grain and sunflower seeds. Still a final export will be energy. Right now Ukraine does not use all of its electricity and is part of the EU power grid. Future energy exports may include about a trillion dollars worth of natural gas in 3 separate fields.

Let’s hope Ukraine will rebuild with modern infrastructure and help from The West. Plan roads before erecting buildings, plan rails and urban rails. Build houses with proper energetic pedigree, fiber optics to home, piped gas, good electric infrastructure. The countries financially contributing to the rebuild should get a proportion of contracts tendered to countries’ companies, and, those companies should get audited so corruption is minimized. The urban architecture of the city and the houses can be a ground to new thinking and a showcase for companies capabilities. I would also favor recoverting back all those “soldiers” (read militia and civilians who had to suddenly join militia) and those traumatized to go back to normal life, psychological support when necessary. There are old pensioners receiving their pension from Russia (for their work when all was USSR), need to address this. So, not focus entirely in infrastructure, add also human and social support/development for a sustain “back to normal” with hope to a better future.

Railroad transformation to EU gage is priority 1. The work can start now for multiple lines from Poland to Liv (3 Lines); Poland to Rivne (1Line); Romania to Ivano-Frankivsk; and Slovenia to Ternopil. Having at least 1 track in EU gage to these points could also help rail shipment of grain. If work started by July, wartime hurry, all could be completed by the end of October. This could open hundreds of grain transfer points.
