Russia has all the strong cards. Both militarily and economically. The west knew Russia was strong militarily, so NATO cannot go for a direct war. The west thought it could wage economic war because it controlled the financial systems, and freeze the dollar and euro assets. They did not factor that Russia, unlike the USSR, has built itself up and could also wage economic war. Russia has the critical commodity, energy, and that is more valuable than currency.

This is true. It's too late. If CC was going to be fixed it would have to have been in the beginnings in the 90s. The longer we wait, the bigger the transition has to be and less likely it'll happen. Ppl would rather live with cheaper bad energy than clean expensive energy. I wouldn't have to be expensive if corporations did the R&D decades ago but they refused and that's the reality. Its not clear whether cc or any co2 reduction strategy can have much impact in the short to medium term, particularly if only done by our part of the world. We have to offset possible benefits to climate over the next century with the averse effect of reducing co2 on food production. To galvanize society, we need experts to prepare the business case and metrics for proposed solutions. I worry as yet we don't have affordable storage solutions to allow solar and wind to bridge multi-day shortages, this should be a priority before we misallocate money .

Strange no one points out that we underestimated Russian power. Russian demands were relatively moderate, i.e. make Ukraine a neutral buffer state. We shot ourselves in the foot. Russia as better tools to survive this than we do. The solution today is uncomfortable but: a) recognize Russia has Europe over an economic barrel. b) recognize that NATO is not provisioned today to defeat Russia in a land war c) enter into discussions on a new security arrangement for Europe d) remove all sanctions WEF in return for energy flow.

Argentina and Iran have suffered under sanctions by the West and they know the Collective West does not respect them as sovereign countries so why is it surprising that they want to join BRICS, which is an organisation that focuses only on helping developing countries build key infrastructure to grow economically? BRICS does not have ideological hang-ups or hegemonic and imperialistic ambitions which have brought the global south war and devastation instead of economic development. Very challenging situation where the optimal outcome is an optimal least damage. I have watched and listened to the contributions each of those panelists have made and have this as a deduction: Nobody knows what the future holds and that decisions made out of emotions and not cerebral skills are sure going to wreck Europe and those nudging Europe to implement measures whose consequences would not harm them are to benefit therefrom. Remember how WW1 and WW2 benefited those who stoked from the sidelines and became overnight money lenders and when the guns went quite,they were at the ready to lend the poor and battered countries money at a huge premium? Fossil fuels have been discouraged and most countries were told to stop using them and refineries were shut down and now they are told to open them up? What is the agenda in all of this chess board? I guess it is to curl the production of these fuels that almost every country in African coastlines are discovering and an encouragement of such production would mean that Africa could become another Saudi Arabia and make a killing. Dangote has to keep working on his refineries and benefit Nigeria and Africa and Mozambique should work on their gas more earnestly.

I didn't hear nuclear at all. Using fracking sounded like a wild and crazy idea, but renewables are said like they are serious options. No mention of Libya. No mention of Turkey. No mention of India. Just a smidgen of Saudi Arabia. No mention of China. If this is a wartime economy, the West needs to play hardball with those "allies", threaten the elephant in the room, and string up Merkel and some Greens as traitors. Egad, we have a confederacy of dunces. Where is your Manhattan style project to get breakthrough in energy storage, so that you can actually use renewables?
