There's been no let-up in Iran's biggest protests since 2019, which have seen unprecedented footage of public burnings of the hijab. Despite disruptions to the internet, popular unrest has flared for a sixth day across the country over the death in custody of Mahsa Amini. The 22-year old Kurdish woman had been detained by the morality police for improperly wearing her hijab. We ask our panel: how far will this women's rights movement go?

This is not the first nor the worst unrest in Iran, but it is the last hope of Iran's enemies to do something from within before things heat up globally. Right now Israel is on high alert in occupied lands and are expecting a massive civil unrest there while countries that are leading the unrest in Iran are very soon going to have not just unrest of their own but even revolutions. Winter is also nearby and unrest and revolutions are going to visit Europe as well. The world is about to unravel yet the people are bewitched and in tears for one Mahsa Amini while nearly ~19000 refugee women of your country are abused and exploited in EU. Let us see how it will all end, I'll be back in 6 months and make a reply here!

Even though I condemn the death of Ameni, I think it's not worth it to protest against a government that will never comply with the people. One death resulted in the deaths of 43 more people, all because of the protest. All these people who died in the protest could have been living peacefully with their families if they had not joined in the protest. As an Iranian, I support the government's mandate for the hijab. 90% of Iranian people support the mandate of wearing the hijab. Less than 0.001% of the people in Iran are protesting against the hijab. That does not represent the entire demographic of the country's population. Accidents can happen. The death of Masha Ameni happened because of a heart attack. I can definitely say that the police didn't want to kill her. As I said, accidents can happen. So don't blame the government. The media is hypocritic. They didn't publish any news when women were forbidden to wear hijab in some countries, even though the women wanted to wear it. But now they are publishing the news day and night.

Azadeh and Masah are brilliant, and they truly capture the beliefs of the people of Iran. As a Persian-American, I know just how much the West (especially France, the UK, and the US) played a major role in putting this regime in power, starting with Khomeini. 2/3 of Iran’s population are under the age of 40 - and they are ready for a change. But they don’t need Western buy-in for these protests to turn into a revolution. The people need the military to join them, as they did in 1979.

@@valeriehancotte-galan4790 It’s a Persian ( Iranian ) fight ! It’s not a Arab fight , it’s important to know the difference between these two cultures ! Persians have a culture of their own that has nothing to do with Arabs , hijab is not part of Persian culture but it is part of Arab culture! You don’t see anyone in Saudi fighting for their freedom they are fine with it ! Unfortunately we in the west are not being educated about history and culture of Middle East specially Iran . Iran is a country of many religions and dialogues it was Persian empire you just can’t mix them with Arabs that’s why we in U.S need to know more . Knowledge is power!

The issue is not just the morality police, it’s the entire islamic republic who is the enemy of iran, Iranian people, and culture. Iranians are as a whole more Sufi/spiritual than practicing muslims. The chants of protestors target the person on top, and the entire regime with many chanting “we will fight, we will die, we will take iran back”, this incident was the last straw- Is the context of the protests reframed in this program to justify president Macron meeting Raisi, whose human rights violation, and murdering of numerous Iranians is well known by all.

you see the hypocrisy of the west. It is the same with Saoudi Arabia and the emirates. West is not condemning because they need their resources so much. Oil en gas is more important in this context than basic human rights.

At 24:13 when speaking of the slogan "Women, life, freedom", I would like to point out that while she might have a point about it, it is also a slogan and the mindset of many Kurdish movements, a slogan that has been prevalent for a long time. Just see the demonstrations in Kurdistan, where they chant "Jin, jiyan, azadî". This is also familiar among the more left leaning Kurdish movements such as Komele, PJAK, and PDKI I think. Could it be that this slogan has come to popular use due to the fact Jina was Kurdish and that the unrest in Kurdistan is rife?
