The shipments will be enough for several months and not one month! Also and more importantly, Iran sent spare parts and equipment to start the Venezuelan refineries working again. Also along with gasoline and diesel fuels, the shipments include petrochemical additives that are used in the production of fuels like gasoline and other oil products, these additives will be enough for the next 5 years. Basically once the spare parts are installed, the refineries will be able to start working within days or few weeks, that's even before the Iranian fuel shipment finishes. The funny thing is that all Iranian ships passed through the strait of Gibraltar which is controlled by Britain and it did not dare stop them because Iran already taught Britain a good lesson last summer when it seized British ship in response to a similar incident by Britain against an Iranian ship.

In the early 2000 Chavez fired all of the qualified employees from the state run oil companies because they didn’t vote for him, solely on that reason, one of those was my cousin. He is an engineer, great person and what’s worse he made it that they couldn’t be hire by anyone else. They hired very unqualified people and the qualified ones that were forced to vote for him for fear of losing their jobs had to dress in red once a week in the case of my brother in law and being humiliated everyday at work because they were educated and competent, that was the environment they had to work everyday with little incentive, always fearful to speak out and with no chance to be promoted to management positions. They installed a bunch of unqualified people because they were Chavistas or friends and family of chavistas in the management positions and that’s how the plants and refineries went to hell. It’s important to note that this was way before the US imposed any sanctions on the Venezuelan oil. The government was very much in charge of all of the mining and oil industries. They expelled all of the foreign companies. These are the consequences of their mismanagement.

Very simple reasoning: Britain has the Straits of Gibraltar. US has the Caribbean. UK and US can easily detain Iranian ships in Gibraltar and Caribbean respectively. But - yea, a big but - Iran has the Straits of Hormuz.. Any UK-US action to blockade Iran's access to Gibraltar and Caribbean will result in Iran's blockade of UK-US access to the the Straits of Hormuz . Quid pro quo. Iran can do to them in Hormuz what they do to Iran in Gibraltar and Caribbean. After weighing the consequences, both US and UK have no stomach for war with Iran over Venezuela. Hence, Iran sails untouched/unimpeded right under UK's nose in Gibraltar and under US nose in the Caribbean. Iran is ready to respond in Hormuz if UK acts in Gibraltar and US acts in Caribbean.

But the most important development no one is talking about and which angered the US is that the ships were meant to break the US blockade of Venezuela. The US, Dutch and French Navy are maintenant a blockade of Venezuela under the guise of narco traffic surveillance. So Venezuela teamed up with Iran to break the blockade under the pretext of freedom of navigation and free trade. Russia and China are monitoring the situation behind the scene. Classic, the Maduro regime celebrating the arrival of Gasoline from halfway round the world all the while sitting on top of a massive oil reserve. They imagine this is somehow a victory over imperialism. They clearly don't underestimate what their engaged in or the deeper underling optics at play. This ploy simply expedites the Maduro prep walk as public discontent gets a boast from his latest folly. Lots of high fives and backslapping at the State Department over this one I imagine.
