I find it very strange he complains about denmark telling them that if they want. Denmark will no longer provide 20 percent of their gdp. Nor provide health service. Education etc. Is that not the whole point of being independent that you take care of yourself. Sounds like he wants all the benefits of being part of the danish realm without actually being apart of it

he is also manipulating about Denmark "annexing" Greenland in 1953 Denmark never gave up Greenland , Denmark and Greenland was occupied in WW2 . Greenland was settled by Norwegians and Icelanders in 982 AD Greenland officially part of Norway in 1262 AD, Inuits migrated from Canada around 1200 AD , Norway became part of the Kingdom of Denmark first as a union later as Denmark-.Norway and that why Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, at no time in history Greenland was independent, they were however given that right starting in 1953 , then next step home rule in 1979 and autonomy in 2009, they can vote for independence when they want and Denmark won't stop them, USA will stop them though , they will take over if Greenland get Independence

Why do you think they haven’t left? Far too small a population. For Denmark, it is essentially a cost. The only reason they’ve kept Greenland is historical and cultural sense of responsibility, not to throw them to the wolves. It’s strange though, Denmark is not allowed to extract Greenland’s resources but the US should be? Maybe Denmark will feel they’ve soon been punished enough for whatever historical sins they commited.

IMO they threaten independence to as a bargaining tactic with Demark and they are telling America they want independence as bargaining tactic with America too. Which is smart Trump wants them for a territory and he's a deal maker. Their saying to both counties hey we got options here you want us you need to make worth our while....Honestly I think Trump is going to make them the best offer they're going to get and Greenland to both their benefit and America's will become a US territory.

You will either be under the domain of the US, with all the good and bad that comes with it, and I say this as a US born citizen, I do not think the US will be as gentlel in regards mineral exploration and drilling as denmark has been in regards the resistance of the local population to widespread exploration. @@jerrymiller9039 Of course, it depends on the opponent. Of course, no nation of 6 million inhabitants can protect itself against a state of 336 million inhabitants - regardless of the size of the country. But now Denmark actually also has an old treaty with the USA, where they are allowed to have military bases against you at the same time participate in the protection of Greenland. The American military presence is primarily intended to protect the USA against nuclear missiles. If the USA does not like that agreement, you are free to close the base. Please clean up after yourself this time. Alternative to the USA - Denmark is developing nuclear weapons. We have the knowledge and economy, if necessary. After all, it was one of the world's best physicists (Niels Bohr) who helped the USA. There is also the possibility that EU countries participate in that defense. We have partners other than the US who agree to stand together against imperialist powers like Russia and China. But admittedly - we hadn't exactly seen the US playing that role. We've become wiser.

It is wrong to say that Denmark annexed Greenland in 1953. In the early 17th century, Dano-Norwegian explorers reached Greenland again. In 1728 Godthåb was established as a trading post, now called Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. When Denmark and Norway separated in 1814, Greenland was transferred to the Danish crown, and was fully integrated in the Danish state in 1953 under the Constitution of Denmark, which made the people in Greenland citizens of Denmark, when its status changed from colony to overseas amt (county).

When it comes to independence for the Iraqis, it was actually the *Iraqi Kurds* who wanted independence from Iraq, the Kurds want a Kurdistan. A *Kurdistan independence referendum in 2017* showed over 90% of Kurds in Iraqi Kurdistan voted in favor for independence, and course, the government of Iraq and Iraqi Supreme Court rejected the 2017 Kurdistan independence referendum. For the Kurds, it was binding, but the Iraqis didn't see it that way. After the 2017 Kurdistan independence referendum, followed the Battle of Kirkuk and other battles, the Iraqi Army attacked the Kurds, the Iraqi Army did a whole offensive into Kurdistan to retake ALL the disputed lands, the Kurds lost a fifth of their lands and had to cancel the Kurdistan IR. The Iraqis haven't liked the Kurds since Saddam's time, perhaps even longer. Saddam used to attack the Kurds in the 1980s, and the Iraqis went berserk in Kurdistan, Saddam's whole government was *very hostile* against the Kurds. Saddam had a *Anfal campaign* in 1988 in Iraqi Kurdistan, the Iraqis committed a lot of atrocities, some 1,200 Kurdish villages were destroyed by the Iraqis, no mercy was shown if they found any Kurd male, from 15 to 50 years old all the males disappeared, they were slain or fled. Only women, children and elderly were captured and sent to prison. The Kurds had to retreat deep in the mountains, hide in caves, the Iraqi Army was going full-blown, estimated 100,000--182,000 Kurd casualties. When it comes to Afghanistan... Well... the Afghan Pashtuns are different, they're the majority, you see the Pashtuns LOVE the Talibs in Afghanistan, and vast majority of the Talibs are Pashtun. The Talibs and Pashtuns are Deobandi Sunni fundamentalists with Pashtun codes, they are very religious, so the previous Afghan government is a massive no-no. You ask any Pashtun in Afghanistan, and practicality all of the Pashtuns will tell you they love the Talibs! Independence in Afghanistan? Maybe the Hazaras and other Afghan minorities would want independence, but the Talibs would never allow that to happen, never.

Greenland receives around 750.000.000$ each year For perspective That amount to 10.000$ per citizen In addition to that, Denmark pays for all public services costs payrolls and and other expenses associated with this: - Police - Justice system - Public offices - The payrolls of Government of parliament and officials and administrators all related expenses - Prisons and expenses running the facilities These are additional costs of 600.000.000$ per year Greenlands Palement does its independent legislation and has full control over spending has been an independent self governing country since 1978 or 79 They own all rights to their national resources and has historically given access to prospectors and experts in this Denmark cannot intervene. They have full control over Fishing rights which is a incredible bargaining chip Only the justice system (Denmark has 3 courts: the city court, the national court and the Supreme Court) is done by Dan courts, however Bro they are bound by the rules and laws Greenland has legislated. I personally think they cost four 55,000 people would be a stretch to add a hole separate system. However, Denmark has historically been arrogant and awful, like any other colonial power, been guilty in some atrocities in the 1900-1960’s - Force removing children - Religious prosecution - Trying to erase the Greenland way of life - Often when coming to Denmark, they are met with racism As a historian, I am aware of historical facts. The current Danish prime minister actually gave an official apology, as one of her first official acts (long overdue). Greenland can at any time succeeded from Denmark, but as in any democracy, it would need to be approved by the Parliament and put to the vote by the Greenland population. In any state there’s a yearning to be independent, but in every state there is also politicians yearning for power. Fact is that there has never been a real movement or even the slightest majority that want to succeed. A cynic would probably say it is ‘because it dependent economically and they would have merit since it is simply impossible to finance complete independence yes things are at the moment. That’s also why they are very keen on attracting investors to their resources. I have to mention Climate change… it is changing Greenland in a staggering rate and when some people see possible income and possibilities. Others see the glaciers retreating km in half a lifetime. So that’s great sadness and anxiety since the average temperatures have risen 5-10 degrees way over 2° scientist has warned us about. I recommend seeing documentary about that.

It’s a rather coherent monopoly play: 1. cause enough climate change to melt the Arctic; 2. Occupy Canada and Greenland. The question is: did he forget he already owns Alaska?

He is naive in focusing on his (legitimate) complaints about Denmark but ignoring the threat that Trump presents. Trump is perfectly ready and able to send in the US marines to take over Greenland if he doesn't get what he wants, how would that be in the interests of native Greenlanders?
