In January this year, French president Emmanuel Macron announced the country would send a number of light tanks to Ukraine to help Kyiv in its fight against invading Russian forces. The tank in question is the AMX-10-RC, an armoured vehicle mounted on wheels rather than tracks but renowned for its speed and effectiveness in the field.

Both-64 and 55 have stabilised main gun - much more powerful than amx has. Amx have a low pressure not stabilised main gun and virtually no armour - its a recce armoured car not a tank (even ww2 tanks were way more advanced than that)

The US should give the Stryker M1128 MGS (Mobile Gun System) to Ukraine anyway it was just recently retired from active service still relatively new. The Stryker MGS would compliment the AMX-10RC in combat missions since both have similar features and fire 105mm ammo.

No question about it, this high mobility vehicle has a huge gun for it’s size. Used in a combined arms formation it will be deadly to the opposition. Much thanks to the French people, often not given the recognition they deserve!

It’s not technically a tank and while it does have armour and a gun the quality of the armour, gun, along with its intended role are quite different. This is a vehicle with light armour and a considerable gun used to provide direct fire support for infantry and recon units. It’s not designed to take hit and while it can potentially fight another tank it’s not the intended role. A tank has a higher class of armour and protection, tracks, generally, and it’s intended to spearhead an assault and be able to survive direct hits. In contrast this vehicle can shrug off near proximity hits in some cases but not direct ones.

@@rocortega2064 Yep. It has the potential to penetrate rear and side with AP. Though it would be not be their preferred option and they would likely call in support or run away instead. A tank is not likely alone and if you mess up your first shot then it will likely kill you before you can get away. That being said if the battle is joined with support they can pull a flanking attack if they are the best option in position and do damage

It isn't a tank, light or otherwise, it is a reconnaissance and fire support vehicle. They have a low pressure 105 mm gun and lacks mobility off road during severe conditions. It is good for urban deployment unlike the tanks plus very fast with low maintenance. In a combined arms unit they will be great for fire support, reconnaissance and securing flanks of high end assets together with the IFVs.

It looks like it will be ideal for defense since it can be quickly deployed where it is needed and the long-range fire can eliminate any advancing troop formation. For offense, it might not be ideal since firing is not that accurate while it is moving on uneven surfaces.

Due to poor capability of the enemy (lack of tanks also now) and efficiency of ukraikians ,it will be efficient enough in case of offencive combat, it has been proven over the next 20 years or so , used by légionnaires for instance (2 REI) .

Honestly given how 105 NATO shells are freely available. Suspect it might kill alot of bmp's etc. But taking out few IFV's at 2000 metres then falling back it's great hit and run tactic to slow down mech infantry. Can create a Napoleon style big front and wear down the Russians. Always striking where unexpected.

Hard to trust any reporting coming out of Ukraine but neither side seems to be claiming that there is a ton of tank-on-tank fighting going on. If that's true then anything that can eat repeated 30mm hits is about as much armor as you need. (No amount of armor is going to save you from a direct missile/mine hit) If that's true then why not use these wheeled light tanks? Check back in six months we will see how they did.

Ok 1. it's a scout vehicle for finding the enemies. 2. It's much faster than other tanks so it can just not be there when other tanks attack. 3. It can see further than even the t90m 4. It's often not unsupported so it finds tanks falls back and let's bigger tanks go in with good information. 5. It's new gun (not the original) can penetrate almost all russian armour at 1500m. 6. It has ability to shower grenades around it if it gets attacked by troops. Making it more suitable for urban attacks. So yeah if you use it correctly it's great. Just like Russians driving t90m into a town was a bad idea because you get attacked on all sides and can't defend.

Brits send Challenger 2, Germans (and several other operators ) send Leopard 2 and Leopard 1, Americans sending Abrams, several former eastern bloc countries sending T72 and variants - all recognised as MBTs. And the French send what appears to be a modified Carefour shopping trolley which only the French think is a tank. I was just wondering, why this old French six-wheeled gun car and none of the more modern, more NATO-compatible and just as crew-unfriendly and cramped Italian eight-wheeler, the Centauro? The latter was manufactured in larger numbers, was in service with the US Army for a time, has a NATO-standard and stabilized 105 mm. gun and there is even a newer model with a larger turret and the 120 mm smoothbore. It is generally considered a light tank equivalent, or an up-to-date tank destroyer. True, the Italians need something to stop the Ruscists in the Austrian Alps when the SHTF (Isonzo River V. 19!), but maybe the Ukrainians will be forced into a Carpathian redoubt before the end of this year, where they might be able to spare the Italians the effort of dealing with the Orc onslaught's westward continuation...

It’s really good that the French are helping the Ukrainians however Ukrainians are saying this particular tank is very light armored and even small fragments of shrapnel will rip through the hull of that tank,,,recently that is what happened to a Ukrainian crew operating this tank in Ukraine and unfortunately it killed the entire crew,,,Ukrainian tankers are also complaining of gearbox failure,,,now that could be a faulty made gearbox or that could be a poorly trained tank crew that doesn’t understand how to operate the tank,,,I really don’t know either way it’s not good and nothing is really going to help the thin armor but again it is very good that France cared enough to send them anything at all that’s very good. I’m thinking they’d be better off with a whole bunch more Bradleys IFV”s. Bradleys can’t take on main battle tanks however they can sure as he\\ mechanize the Ukrainian army better than they ever have been before,,,The Ukrainians have been using the Bradley for everything it was designed for with very good results,,,they’re not invulnerable I was reading just today an article of how the Ukrainian army are using the Bradleys and they really like everything it can do and what it has to offer however they also admit themselves it’s not a magic vehicle and they’ve lost at least one to a direct hit from a main battle tank or artillery unsure which however that being said they’re making significant gains with the Bradleys they showed how they used them to evacuate a small village or what was left of it they found a bunch of old people that were living underground in basements and under ground shelters nearly starved to death and they were able to evacuate the old folks in these Bradleys under constant fire and they were able to make it through to safety and the Ukrainian soldiers showed where the Bradley had actually been hit different places all over their tank but yet it still survived they say the Bradleys are very well-made and they’re very glad to have them👍 I would say a bunch of these Bradleys and some soldiers with some javelins would be a highly effective combination against the Russians

I am really curious, how much effect all this different kinds of tanks will have in Ukraine. The getting this, than the Leopard-2, Challenger 2, later Abrams, than some older Leopard-1, some Marder IFV, and god knows what else.
