Azerbaijan ‘rejects’ France’s Nagorno-Karabakh ‘illegal’ offensive claim, ambassador says

Azerbaijan and Armenian separatists from the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh held their first direct peace talks Thursday, after Baku claimed to have regained control over the breakaway region in a lightning military operation that France slammed as "illegal, unjustifiable and unacceptable". FRANCE 24 spoke to Leyla Abdullayeva, Azerbaijan's ambassador to France, about the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Except for the most basic question if an international piece keeping force would be allowed to at least guarantee their safety. The answer is an obvious no from her answer and the local Armenians are at the mercy of the Azerbaijani government whom they do not trust. Has Azerbaijan been friendly to local Armenian communities in the past and if armenia didn’t suffer from a genocide and atrocities that killed more than 1.5 million Armenians from the Turks ( and Azeris are Turkic people) maybe the situation and prospects of reintegration would have been different. You can’t come and convince me that you did things right in the past and everything wrong came from the Armenians who have been living in their historical lands for centuries if not millennia. The reason why USSR gave autonomy for the Armenians was to prevent another genocide from Azeris and the reason armenia invaded in 1990s was to protect local Armenians safety in nagorno karapakh. Obviously, if you were able to protect their safety in the past century none of this would have happened. So ask the question for yourself and no need for a retaliatory response. I hope Azerbaijan has become wiser as a nation despite the fact that you are still governed by an authoritarian dictator. Ethnic cleansing term is used to describe to force or extermination of a particular group from an area, however Azerbaijan is offering to indenigious Armenians in the Karabakh region reassurances that they can live alongside Azerbaijanis peacefully under Azerbaijan sovereignty.
