Vengerov was one of the great of all times. He had a back injury, from what I heard, and now is playing the concertos he played when he was 5 years old. And not even remotely like he played the Sibelius years ago.

How many times I listen to it, I always fell in love.. the harmony with orchestra both deep tones and high tones and his expressions. Just so perfect.. Now my 9years son is practicing on his violin the 3rd movement of this piece. It’s like a huge wall standing in front of him.. he is struggling but I can see he also loves this piece especially Mr. Vengerov’s performance.

In the start when he is playing the open G string, why does he press and vibrate the D string? Just curious. Lovely Rendition btw :)
@DavidBergman1776
@DavidBergman1776 Жыл бұрын
It actually creates vibrato on the g string because it is an overtone of the low g (3rd finger on d string also g), just makes it sound nicer than the plain g string (in my opinion)

Yes, it's kind of shocking. His phrasing is odd too in some places. Maybe just a bad day, I don't know. He's generally not as great as he was when he was younger (who is?) but most of the time he still produces brilliant performances.

Pablo Heras-Casado is one of the best conductors around. He brings out things in this concerto you usually don't hear, and he follows Vengerov to a tee. He also draws a dramatic intensity from the orchestra unusual for this concerto. Bravo.

5:34 - 6:34 This is one of my favorite parts of this concerto. It feels like the Orchestra DEMANDS the attention of the audience after the soloists time in the spotlight. What a powerful section. And that BRASS. Still surprising no matter how many times I listen to it. Side note: I love the energy this conductor has.

I feel like Vengerov has developed a lot musically in his middle age. When young he was a precocious prodigy with explosive energy and staggering virtuosity. Now I feel like he has toned down a bit, polished the skills, but most importantly developed a more thorough understanding and interpretation of the music with the "full view" in mind, effectively employing a form of delayed gratification to culminate in a more gratifying climax and expressing the subtle contours in the music more effectively to the audience.

Max Bruch is one of those composers with whom a single work is almost exclusively associated. The popularity of his violin concerto in G minor thus eclipsed his entire production. If he was not necessarily understood in his time, Bruch testified to a true genius of which this concerto is the perfect incarnation. The concerto, in its definitive version, finally knew how to touch the public and remains, today, one of the most popular in the violin repertoire. How can you resist the rhapsodic and elegiac accents of this score, which offers the soloist the opportunity to shine as much by his virtuosity as by his lyricism ! The first movement « Vorspiel - Allegro Moderato » is like a long introduction to the following two which are as intense as they are contrasting. In the second part « Adagio », the composer testifies to his melodic genius through a cantilena of overwhelming emotional power. As for the swirling « Finale : Allegro Energico », it allows the soloist to deploy the most dizzying virtuosity. Its violinist and dedicatee Joseph Joachim will write : « The Germans have four violin concertos. The largest, the freest of concessions, is that of Beethoven. That of Brahms, by its seriousness, is in line with Beethoven. The richest, the most bewitching, was written by Bruch. But the most interior, the jewel of the heart, comes to us from Mendelssohn. » It seems to me that everything is said after this soothing reflection arising from its historical context. Dedication to Max Bruch : Musical life is a very difficult art to learn. My thanks to Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France and France Musique. *Lucien*
