I'm glad to know his name -- F. Geminiani --, for I've heard his music many times, not knowing his name. Francesco Geminiani was born in Luca, Italy and spent most of his music career in Naples and England. Great composer and virtuoso violinist! His twelve Concerti grossi are full of beautiful lines and joyful rhythms.

+Joshua Kim Perhaps it is Arcangelo CORELLI you should look for. Other people here say these works are Corelli's violin sonatas, Opus V, arranged for concerto grosso by Geminiani :-)

This piece is totally same with Corelli Violin Sonata Op.5 No.7. Geminiani was younger than Corelli. I don't know who copied but we know composers at that time had much copied each other, even Handel.

It's not really copying. This is an arrangement with acknowledgment to Corelli.

German was a student and promoter of Corelli’s work. His arrangements of Corelli sonatas into Concerti Grossi may have been an attempt to meet an English taste of the day for orchestral rather than chamber music.

Arcangelo corelli compositore romagnolo nato a Fusignano poi in seguito fece tappa a Roma e Bologna dove completo le sonate a tre in tempi diversi. Corelli, non ha scritto molte opere se si paragona ad esempio ad albinoni e vivaldi, personalmente le sonate a tre di tutte le opere che ha composto sono l'Araba fenice, belle, fresche da ascoltare , e sopratutto made in Italy.

Originally it was a sonata of Corelli, for a few instruments, and Geminiani adapted for a chamber orchestra (I may say, modernized), since he loved his master.

He didn't steal them. He was Corelli's student and wanted to pay homage to him.

These pieces are not by Geminiani, but rather G's arrangements of Corelli. A better title for this video would be something like 'Corelli, arr. Geminiani - Concerto versions of Op. 5, Sonate a violino e violine'

estilo veneziano, no es matematico ni limpio, diria que en su interpretacion real es mas parecido con Jazz de lo que parece ser, en su epoca era pura ornamentacion sobre el tema principal propuesto por el autor, mucho mas libertad de interpretacion de lo que se le dio al interprete en el clasicismo y en el romanticismo...

I think of Geminiani as one of George Frederick Handel's competitors in London. Perhaps, as well, Maurice Greene (native of England and same age as Handel), plus Boyce, Thomas A. Arne, and John Gay. I was a history major...not a music major. The era of Handel / Boyce / Fielding / JC Bach reminds me of Samuel ("Dictionary") Johnson, who broke away from aristocratric sponsorhip. Possible, I think, only in London, and smaller cities in England and Scotland. (And for those just meeting the English Baroque / rocco / early classical, Handel used an English pronunciation for his name. He was "George", not "Georg" once he giot to London.)

As I know, Geminiani played violin in Haendel's orchestra, and Haendel was very satisfied with him. And that was a rare exception. Haendel's competitor was rather Bononcini and his opera house...
