I needed this conversation... After going to family events last week, everyone made me feel like a loser.... I'm the only one who isnt in the medical and engineering field :/ I made so many pivots in my life during the year.. I decided to be a full time artist and starting a plant nursery on the side. Thank you so much for sharing your story. You lit a fire in me to keep going :)
@ChloeTheePayne
@ChloeTheePayne 2 жыл бұрын
oof, yep i hear you. there are so many social pressures that discourage us from the idea of pivoting as adults, we're made to feel like we would be giving something up if we deviate from an established path or like we're losers if we're starting something new. good for us investing in ourselves anyway, we're worth it!

I feel you. I put off uni for only a few years, and worked. EVERYONE is telling me now that I am behind in life, and that I peaked at age 17……I know I did NOT peak in my teens lol, but now finally at uni finishing my degrees PLURAL and most of my classmates are the young under 21 crowd. To clarify, I am in my mid 20’s and these under age drinkers call me OLD!!!🤦‍♀️ So I stick with the “older” students yet I am the only Gen Z er there

Extremely insightful conversation. A couple of takeaways that I’d like to try out personally: - A contract with yourself to measure progress on your goals and be able to define what success looks like for you. - When you’re in a heated argument with a loved one reiterate what the other person is saying and then respond. - Role play conversations and have one liners ready for questions you are not comfortable answering

Hey TFD, I think I remember you guys being sponsored by Betterment before. They are rolling out a new pricing model that will substantially affect accounts with a balance less than $10k. Betterment is supposed to be a service advertised to those just starting out on their financial journey, and Betterment's new pricing model will change that. I'm a college student, and Betterment helped me open a Roth IRA and HYSA. I don't make enough money to put more than $10/mo across my accounts, so the new $4/mo fees hurt me more than benefit me, and I have nowhere near $20k across my accounts to qualify for the 0.25% fee. I have to figure out where to rollover my Roth IRA now, which is stressful (and feels unfair for what they advertised themselves as tbh). I know you guys also cater to those just starting out in their financial journey, so I hope you guys can reevaluate future sponsorships with them.

I loved this conversation so much especially as someone who is learning to think about themselves as a creative. I want to be plugged in (to social media) but not so much that it negatively impacts me. Franchesca has given me so much to think about. And, the older I get the value I see in a pre-nup and having the hard discussions up front to save potential headache down the road.

I appreciate this discussion with Franchesca!! I followed her years ago. She's definitely an OG content creator. As an intermediate nature and wildlife photographer and educator, I don't post my family members or relationship status. Sadly, I've seen several women who monetized or publicized their marriage or romantic relationships not end well. A lot of those relationships have ended in the last several years. In a world where so many people want access to EVERYTHING in your life, it's important to keep some aspects of your life to yourself.

It’s always really strange to me when people say we have separate accounts. It’s like cool, if you didn’t feel the need to combine accounts, keep things the same, but that doesn’t protect you. The law sees you as a financial unit, that includes debt as well.

I've been married two and a half years; I make significantly more than my husband - can't imagine ever getting divorced. We did a pre-nup anyway, but all it does is set out the assets we both brought into the marriage. I just assume should the worst happen we would split the assets accumulated during marriage 50/50 (despite the higher financial contributions I made) as that's fair. I really don't understand the concept of alimony for a spouse that has never given up work during the marriage / no kids / etc. Child support is obvious to me, but alimony should be very specific and not standard in my opinion - rather than just splitting the assets accumulated.

Oooh, Chelsea-- don't say "manifest". Manifesting is not a thing. Too many people go down the magical thinking rabbit hole. Ambition and hard work, meeting people and taking chances will bring you whatever life brings. It may or may not be success, or not the level of success that you imagine for yourself. But please don't make people buy into that "manifesting" crap. I've known people who manifested their way into losing their housing and more, thinking "the Universe" was going to come through with the rent if they just kept believing.
