I would see the temptation. You start getting recognition, offers and fame. The big productions can bring you a wider range of sound and feel. But I think Francis might have just chosen less experienced producers(Since they can't translate the full expression of the song in studio versions). Anyway, Francis's songs are very expressive and emotional and most of the time build from piano. And he masters it so well.
