As an Xbox Owner, I must admit... This is a pretty low blow for Playstation owners who were considering on trying/buying this. Sadly this is the new era of gaming, DRM and abusing "Disc-Locked Content" (DLC)

All of this was announced when the game was announced, they were never going to give people the full retail game for free. You get a smaller version of the game for free. And for people complaining that you need PS+ to play the game, you don't need PS+ to play but the entire game is developed around playing with other people.

Only the PS+ version(the free version) of Driveclub requires a PS+ subscription to keep playing. When you upgrade to the full version for $50, even if your PS+ subscription lapses you can still play the game because you already purchased it. Also we must remember that PS4 requires PS+ to play online and since Driveclub has extensive online play, I believe this is what Sony was pointing to when they said you need PS+ to play Driveclub.

I'm glad the amount of comments on here aren't destroying Microsoft. Sony hasn't done anything for the fans, yet somehow they've got an army of people defending them. When Microsoft does something the fans don't like, they try their hardest to reverse it. What does Sony do? They sit back and wait for it to fix itself. It's a well known fact for PS+ members that if you get a FREE GAME, and then get any DLC for said game, you will lose access to both the game and the DLC if your membership expires. The problem is that this "Upgrade" for DriveClub is classified as if it were simply a DLC. I don't think the DriveClub developer was fully aware of how this system works, because they clearly priced the item intending it to be an actual retail purchase (and not merely DLC). It's a simple fix (changing the game to a discounted full retail purchase you actually get to keep/play forever, rather than a DLC of a "free" PS+ game). Sony has no control over how Dev's/Publishers decide to post/price their products. Hopefully the DriveClub dev's will fix their product format soon, because this was clearly an accident. Nobody in their right mind would force players to pay 50 bucks for what is essentially DLC for a product they don't even own.

Not really the point. He saying if you pay $50 to buy it using the ps+ discount to get the full game, and you stop paying for ps+, then you can't play the game at all. Thus making the $50 you just spent useless if you don't pay for ps+ forever.
