I personally feel that this film was the ideal project for the saintly "Delores Hart". She had a thriving career from the mid-50's to the 60's, when she was blessed with leading roles [that suited her personality] to the hilt. If you may recall, she was Elvis Presley leading lady in two films: King Creole and Loving You. The early 60's gave her roles with more substantial parts. She headed the cast of the very lovable 'Where the boys are' , sharing screen space with that powerhouse voice, Connie Francis. Her other co-stars were George Hamilton, the great Paula Prentiss, Jim Hutton and Yvette Mimieux. Yvette played a mixed up kid of loose morals. Delores also enjoyed top assignments in Come Fly with me as an air-hostess and The Plunderers. Both her male co-stars in this movie made a splash for themselves with films under their 20th Century Fox contracts. Bradford Dillman, who married the very gorgeous red-haired model, Suzy Parker, was in films: A certain smile, Compulsion, among others. Stuart Whitman was a ruggedly handsome man, who came to fame with the Biblical drama 'The Story of Ruth' and followed that film with many others during the 60's and 70's.

I was young when I saw this movie and it was one of the great movies to me to make me believe St. Francis as one of the greatest and admirable servant of the Lord! He cast away his riches and humbly serve the Lord being poor!

While I don't recognize Francis of Assisi as a saint I think he was an admirable man and have visited the Portiuncula chapel which, sadly, Francis would not recognize today

@@hikari-no-kawa It is highly decorated and enclosed in a huge cathedral ... so different to the simple, humble life of Francis.

Saints were heroes those days because they. Lived in the teachings of Jesus but they were humans too ,so they were not perfect. They had big impact in a lot of people lives,

beautifully acted with sincerity. it came out at a time when fox was pouring millions into ''cleopatra'' and nearly banktupting the studio. ''francis'' met with mixed reviews with one critic uncharitably describining it as ''ben-hur without the chariot race.'' indeed, it lost roughly $2 million at the box office, but how can a film about the life of a saint be a movie about POW and BANG and scattered spcial effecta?
