i have been dedicated to listening to many different takes on spiritual mysticism, from the religious Christ followers of the west as well as the many different religious and spiritual cultures of the east and other places around the world. This man gets it 100%, and what's more amazing to me is that behind the curtain of these different cultures and backgrounds there is this repeating message of universal (hidden in plain sight ) unity, a heart mind above/behind the human mind. that brings us to this singular point of faith or "knowing" and to me, it seems that God really does enjoy the whole spectrum of this creation, like many different creeks and rivers that flow into one big ocean at the end of it all. Richard Rohr's understanding of this cosmic Christ that resides in all is one of the best ways I have heard this repeated "knowing" and that god is just right here...Fantastic!!!

My uncle was a Franciscan friar who ended up living in the Vatican. Father John Joseph of Buffalo.I was an atheist all my life even though I practiced as a Roman Catholic. It was forced from birth. My uncle always fascinated me because he seemed to know something that I couldn't understand or see. Fast forward and I find out he had a profound psychedelic experience back in the early 60's and went to figure out what he had experienced.To have that expero nice naturally. I've since followed that logic and have had these experiences showing the divine is within and without . The non dual experience.

A lot of people have found that the psychedelic experience could help them experience the divine. Most I am aware of would phrase it as it accelerated their being able to "find the door" but wouldn't keep it open. Their practice/disciplines would turn out to be the means to keep it open. The path may vary for many but my experience is as I mentioned in the experience of those I have read about. Peace and All Good...

This is Richard Rohr. He is a Franciscan Monk and is currently at the Center for Action and Contemplation he founded in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Look up the Center for Action and Contemplations website for more info. I am a study of his for several years. I found him while researching after some experiences I had as a result of my practice to find that I had become a Christian Mystic. I may start teaching on this channel. Please check back. I lost my religious beliefs at age 40 and then a few months later, I had an enormously impactful mystical experience that lasted a full day. By definition these experiences are ineffable, but I feel I must at least try to explain because it was … just wondrous. It began with watching the last leaf on the lowest branch of our tree in the backyard break away and float to the ground. And it could have been 30 seconds or a lifetime - or maybe I should say time fell away & I was here now, deeper than I’d ever been. Somehow this triggered mystical time. Then I walked into the bedroom and my husband was holding my baby girl above him, and they were smiling and laughing joyously at each other and in that instant I knew I was inside of them too. And then I noticed the Amy that I had been for decades was gone - I was someone else. Because of my religious background I call him/her God/Goddess but all I can tell you is I felt ancient and more masculine than I normally feel. And I knew, KNEW that I was also my husband and my daughter. So we leave to run errands, it’s a Saturday morning and we park at Tractor Supply. It’s before noon. I get out of the truck and look up at the beautiful trees and I feel such joy. Such JOY!!! And so I got my baby girl out of her car seat and began dancing with her around the parking lot. This part makes me emotional because I can promise you, I have never been close to that happiness before or after, to feel such joy that I can dance with a baby in Tractor Supply’s parking lot with no music, on a Saturday morning- there is no substance on this earth that could get me there. For the rest of the day, my senses were sooo enhanced. Music was amazing! Eating was insanely phenomenal!! I think I lost the mystical experience when after dinner I had to write a poem - but honestly I wouldn’t trade this day for all the riches in the world. For whoever is reading this - thank you for listening. To the Friar - thank you for sharing this important & wonderful message. I’ll share the poem. The Bonaventure quotes are from p. 67 of the Paulist Press collection of Bonaventure's writings. Writings of this sort of love, like Christ Himself, are not understood by the mind that hates its enemies and imagines that Hell is more than a day event (the Last Day). Peace to all souls!

This wise Friar tuned my mind towards non-dualism. Since last year, Upanishads and the Spanish mystics have been my reading, and I find I'm understanding my kinsman, Saint Columba, a lot better. One minor point, and one complementary to Scotland, Duns Scotus was Scottish, not English, as Richard Rohr mistakenly said. His sarcophagus in Cologne reads: ''Scotland brought me forth, England sustained me, France taught me, Cologne holds me.''

Perhaps God is like a fractal geometric shape, with infinite dimensions. Where every point in space and time is present within every other point of space and time. If you want to reach the other side of the Universe, you don't really have to reach for something that is already present. And a fractal is a non-dualistic shape. It has unique "shapeness" that is also completely identical to every other part of the shape.

I see this as more the cry of those who do not wish to actually be transformed by their practice or seeking and instead wish to be lazily saved from themselves never actually changing.

@@newtonboyd I find it troubling that the liturgy (by way of the Church) is leaning increasingly more in this direction. It feels like we're being "whipped into shape", being constantly reminded of how "undeserving" we are. To say "I'm sorry" all the time instead of "thank you!" Where I live, Mass is now only attended by video link, & I'm saddened to discover that the only thing I miss about in-person attendance are the Tabernacle & Eucharist. I find myself needing to return to these videos (often) to remember the joy and clarity of those early "knowings" which first led me to the church as it was (and the extraordinary priest who steered me toward Fr. Richard) at that time now quite long ago. I'm so grateful you have posted these; I don't like to think where I'd be without them.

Feb 1, 2023 - watching the Pope/Mass in DRC: the vivid colours, the ululations, the joyful singing, people moving to the music ... It’s a very long time since I could dance, but I found myself “chair dancing”, and I thought: oh, we need this here in the western Church. We need to *feel* it, not just (not always, but often) recite in robotic monotone. And not be scolded or scorned when moved to move, as happened to one now former lifelong parishioner a few years ago 🙁

While this Lecture I believe is true, I invite scholars to discuss how we can intelligently convince today’s mainline habitual thinking of Christ. It seems that the first step is to show how each writer of the New Testament, with next being the Fathers of the Church, how each one’s thinking taken individually has not only mistakes, but can too easily become for the not so bright as being definitive, without a development of TRUE “doctrine”, that is, becoming a wrongful path towards true spirituality.

It is odd however that something experienced/embodied isn't already perceived within everyone from the get go though. Maybe it's a type of mind hide and go seek thing. Something we already are but our thinking gets in the way. Because the dogmatic image/definition of what a God is written about as I understand it, seems to need invited in. And I feel a real higher power can't come from the outside...it should already be.

Given that the story of Adam and Eve is essentially a metaphor, how could we be redeemed from metaphorical sin(s)? Therefore (to my mind) it follows that incarnation only makes sense if it's relational. Not to say he didn't provide us with a road map for "right living". A map we seem consistently (in the broad sense) to dismiss.

The Genesis account, including the Fall of Adam and Eve from the Garden, is not metaphor but symbol. Whereas metaphors represent something other than themselves, symbols are themselves first and foremost, i.e. irreducible archetypal realities. Symbols are not less real than concrete historical facts but more real, and their impact pervades the human mind and heart as no episode in history could.
