a very good homily indeed...it's a pity that most priests don't preach on the teachings of the church anymore...but only on the gospel

Purgatory is very much real and makes perfect sense. God did not allow humanity to fall without the possibility of redemption it's an irrefutable condition of existence. Which pre existed before the creation of the solar system

"Uzdam se, moj Gospodine, u tvoju neizmjernu dobrotu: učini da ti, zadovoljivši ti i svidjevši ti se u svemu, otvorim svoje srce da bude raspoloženo svakoj tvojoj želji kako bi ga ti, ulazeći duhovno u njega, utješio i ojačao protiv neprijatelja koji nastoje udaljiti ga od tebe. Tako neka bude učinjeno sve ono što je dobro u tvojim očima. Stvoritelju i Otkupitelju moj, neka tvoja volja bude sada i uvijeke moja hrana i moja potpora. Ovu te milost samo molim, Ljubavi slatka: da moja duša, pročišćena i oslobođena od svake stvari koja se tebi ne sviđa, bude uvijek urešena svetim krepostima i bude uvijek spremna na tvoj dolazak i koliko ti se svidi da sa mnom raspolažeš." ________ (Iz knjige "Put Prosvjetljenja" - p. Visa mindre SVARA Suzana saloma Suzana saloma för 1 sekund sedan David Greg Taylor för 1 år sedan Today, Christmas Day, is the day when the most souls are released from purgatory. This is a good day to visit a Jubilee of Mercy church and pray the Rosary for the Holy Souls. Be sure to confess and receive the Blessed Sacrament and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father. SVARA 32 David Greg Taylor David Greg Taylor för 1 år sedan (redigerad) +CandaceWhite Your reasoning, in the first place, is fallacious. The BIBLE itself states that the Church is the pillar and foundation of the truth. Nowhere is Sola Scriptura mentioned in the Bible. Obviously, the avalanche of heresies based on Sola Scriptura are too numerous to mention here, but your trolling is a good example of one. SVARA 3 David Greg Taylor David Greg Taylor för 1 år sedan +CandaceWhite Hail Mary is in Luke, where she is referred to as "full of grace." If you can't derive prayers from the Bible, then you're being quite inconsistent. I'm trying to point out the inconsistencies of Sola Scriptura-based interpretations of the Bible. Sola Scriptura isn't in the Bible. Sola Scriptura is a heresy. The Bible clearly states that the CHURCH is the pillar and foundation of the truth. There must be a final authority for Biblical interpretation, and it CAN'T be the Bible, for that makes it contradict itself. Read the early Fathers of the Church, in the first three centuries. They are speaking of practices I see every day in Mass. I recognize the Catholic Church in these writings, which tells me that I am in the right place. You can't say that. You can't read the writings of the disciples of St. John and find Calvinism, or Lutheranism, or the Baptists. It isn't there. It is ludicrous to think that it was not until 1517 that God was able to get someone to interpret Scripture and set things right. It makes Jesus promise that the gates of hell would not stand against His Church void. It would mean Jesus was wrong and didn't know the future of His Church. It would mean He was just a man. You can't have it any other way. Either Jesus was correct, or He was not. Visa mindre SVARA 4 David Greg Taylor David Greg Taylor för 1 år sedan (redigerad) I think you don't understand. The Bible is quoted extensively by the Church Fathers, and their writings show that the character of the early Church is the same as what we see in the current Catholic Church. The followers of the Apostles believed what Catholics believe now. SVARA 2 zxzrp0 zxzrp0 för 1 år sedan So Catholics believe in the Torah? Did not the Apostles follow a Jewish man named Yeshua who quoted and read from the Torah? Also, did he not attend a Temple? not a Church and is there not a difference? I am honestly interested since I am a believer but religion is....well it makes it difficult. SVARA David Greg Taylor David Greg Taylor för 6 månader sedan The Judaizer sect was taken care of in the Council of Jerusalem, in Acts. Jesus is now the embodiment of the Law, and everything goes through Him from that point on. He gave His authority to the Apostles, and they gave theirs to their successors. When you have a problem with "religion", you're actually saying you want to make up one that suits your desires. It doesn't work that way. Visa mindre SVARA

It's sad but true our priests are afraid to teach on this .their homilies are set to say what the parishioners want to hear, comfortable teachings

It is incredible how the reality of Purgatory is not obvious to any Christian with a sound mind. Besides, apart from the obvious teachings about it in the Bible, if purgatory doesn't exist then there has to be a fine line drawn to where we make it to Heaven or just barely miss out and SORRY you are in Hell. That just doesn't seem like the way a loving God would determine our eternity.

How many sins did Jesus die for ? Coll 2:9-15 says that Jesus took the punishment for our sins and nailed it to the cross! Purgatory implies that Jesus is not capable of atonement and you must make atonement for your venial sins. That is just not scriptural. I see father William using 1 Cor 3:15 as a proof text for purging of sins whereas the context starts in 1 Cor 3:10 and the entire context is NOT speaking of sin. How can he say different ? 11:41 he brings up CCC 1031 as proof and it is not when you actually check what the scripture context is clearly telling you.

Listen to one comment Father Casey made because it will rightfully put righteous fear into your hearts. Fr. Casey made the comment that most of us will spend time in Purgatory. One of the female saints from one hundred years or so ago had a vivid appearance (or visit to) Purgatory. She came back to preach that from what she saw and learned, most of us Christians will not go directly to Heaven. She claimed that but a small number, 10% (I think) will go directly to Heaven. Another small number, 10% or so (it could be higher, my memory is not accurate) will go to hell. But those going to hell are those people who openly, mindfully, willingly, want to go there because either they are unrepentant of sins and/or really arrogantly want to go there in defiance of God. Of the rest of us who possess varying degrees of holiness, will have to spend time in Purgatory, cleansing our souls of venal sins, confessed and forgiven mortal sins, and residual attachment to sin. You cannot appear soiled and imperfect before God. Fr. Casey adds, why would we want to appear before God in a state not appealing to Him? The scary thing about Purgatory is the length of time you have to spend there. Reputedly, souls can be in Purgatory for a very long time, we're talking like a century or more. But time is different in Purgatory than here on earth. Time goes by faster by a soul's perception in Purgatory. It's best to cleanse oneself as much as possible through the Sacrament of Penance throughout life, avoiding sin, and maintaining a clean spiritual life.

the doctrine that the purgatory is the rule rather than the exception is sick teaching and worse self fulfilling because fosters not to trust in Gods mercy. Do you really think that big formerly sinners that became saints like saint Agustin or Saint Paul went to Purgatory?
