A short video showing some factual aspects of the large Australian Wolf Spider Lycosa sp behaviour in a typical lawn on the east coast of Australia.
If you like this video you can see more of my work at
www.sciencephoto.com/search?su...
The footage was obtained entirely on location and sets were not used.
ERRATUM: PLEASE NOTE THAT WHERE THE NARRATOR REFERS TO GRASSHOPPERS, AFTER THE FIRST CLIP THE FOLLOWING ARE ACTUALLY CRICKETS FROM THE FAMILY TETTIGONIIDAE (THEY CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY HAVING LONG ANTENNAE) Sorry!
CHECK OUT THIS OTHER CREEPY SPIDER VID HERE!
• Arachnophobia
FINALLY a generic note to all who watch this video:
Thanks for your comments liking the vid but no your are wrong (if you suggest/imply or simply state the following about the making of this film): I never tore off an legs put any crickets/grasshoppers near holes etc. This vid took over 3 weeks to film not to mention the several weeks before filming to scope an area of over 400m2 looking for active spiders in their holes and noting at what time of day they came out and when and where the sun direction was from, temperature, when crickets (they were actually day cricket and not grasshoppers) were about etc. Everything you see on FCF is very well thought out, with a proper productions, and thorough research liaising with world authorities on subject matter for accurate narrations .Sometimes SFX are indeed added however there are no interspecies conflicts nor are there any forced conflicts just loads of research, careful and detailed observations, and the stuff you can't buy off the shelf and that's patience and dealing with the countless times you sit there getting eaten alive by mosquitos, bitten by ants to make something like what you see here in this short film.
Thanks for watching!

DON'T KILL WOLF SPIDERS! These guys are chill as fuck and they're great at killing other nasties you might find in your back yard... they kill other spiders for fun! They aren't particularly aggressive to humans either and would much prefer to run away or avoid you completely. If one comes into your home, use a glass and paper to scoop it and let it go away from your house.

Hitsuke I miss them, they'll rear up if cornered to warn you away or run for it. I moved to a place that doesn't have them and it is infested with sac spiders. Only down side to a wolf is I have stepped on one and my sister had a mother with babies on her back crawl into bed with her, this didn't end well. Never once got bitten... only been bitten by a jumping spider I picked up. I lived in a house infested with black widows... I don't think the wolfs eat black widows. lol

Nowdays I can TOUCH little spiders such as the harmless "skinny legs" spiders or the green leaves spiders...however when it comes to HAIRY spiders the phobia triggers and I can barely look at them...videos still get under my skin, but definetly not as much as in the real life! what gives me the creeps about spiders is that they can be still for days and than jump at you so damn fast O_o!!!

If you’re scared of hairy tarantulas, know: - tarantulas are slow and fragile asf - the ones that can kick their setae (hair) off in defence are left with a hilarious bald patch on their butt if they do it too much

I was very impressed by your video! I love nature documentaries, but sometimes my attention span isn't very long. LOL. That's why I like ones that are a few minutes long. I hope you continue to observe and film wildlife. Bravo! Keep up the great work! I can't wait to see more!

In Australia, Q-tips are called "cotton buds." I was a Yank (USA native, i.e.) visiting pals near Melbourne. In the house, up on the wall, was a nice-sized Wolf spider. The guys there swore to me that the spider was "harmless." I decided to test that theory by ***gently*** placing a Q-tip's cotton end within reach of the spider. Instantaneously, giant fangs came out, left and right, and embedded themselves deep in the Q-tip. Hahaha. Yeah. Very funny.

Wow the wolf spiders here are never found in burrows. This is a black window dominated space around my parts. Just found a hole the size of a dime. The spider is huge. And now there are tons of holes. Small ones bit still they grow every week, I think imma dig me up a few for pets.

Wolf spiders do live in the US though (but I think the species we have is smaller). My house is infested with them and they can grow to the size of a quarter or more. They're actually very nice to have around... less bugs. Very beautiful spider shown here- keep the bug populations in control! :D

I finished fishing and turned my headlamp on and saw hundreds of green glowy things in the grass. I was like oh sick I wonder what that is and leaned over and was like AYO. It was hundreds of wolf spiders and as I walked away I saw them retreat into burrows or walk out of my way. Very cool

This was an amazing video. I've become a bit obsessed with spiders. Jumping spiders. But in becoming obsessed with watching them I've seen other videos. I've seen a lot of videos about wolf spiders but I've never seen one where it shows her digging her burrow. I've never seen a spider use its Fangs for anything but eating and killing and injecting. It's kind of makes them more motherly. And she's making herself a nice home like any woman would want. Thank you for sharing this video with us. They are some scary looking spiders but they're also very necessary and I'm becoming more and more aware of how much they helped us compared to how much they can hurt us. I've learned that from Clint's reptiles and Tyler Nolan's videos and Chandler's videos. Just because animals can hurt us doesn't make them bad. And they're not vicious their defensive. See I'm learning already. Thank you for your video
