As a Mets fan who watches him on a daily basis, and was my favorite player from his time in Cleveland he is a superstar that is underrated at this point. I hate how one mediocre season in 2021 sullied so many Mets fans on him. I’m not saying he hasn’t had good seasons since coming to The Mets, but there is an OBVIOUS reason why people don’t talk about him as much as when he was in Cleveland-he’s lost his pop. Yes, he hit 31 homers last year BUT, he hasn’t had an OPS over .806 since joining the Mets (he was routinely over .850 while in Cleveland). He also used to be a doubles MACHINE reaching over 40 doubles 3 times while in Cleveland; since joining The Mets, he could barely get 30 (he did it last year, that’s it). That doesn’t include that he’s striking out ALOT more (he’s on pace for yet another season over 130 K’s; something he did NOT do in Cleveland). And most importantly, when he was in Cleveland he could at least get his OBP to over .350 - while in New York, Lindor has been lucky to reach a .330 OBP. So maybe he’s putting up decent numbers at face-value; but it’s clear why isn’t talked about as much as when he was wearing a Cleveland Indian (Guardians) jersey.

Why Lindor is underrated? Bc the mets fanbase is the most hot and cold group of people ever. On most days im embarrassed to call myself a mets fan bc of the way some people act here. Lindor is a fantastic player and i think people need to forget about the stupid contract bs bc at the end of the day we aint footing the bill, cohen is, and cohen and his guys paid that much for a reason. Lindor will be the only Met of this current era / generation to hit the hall of fame at this current rate. Unless pete figures his shit out or alvy goes nuclear. Lindor is a beast and also the kindest coolest person out there. Mets fans need to spread more love to this team and maybe things will continue to get better this second half. LFGM BABYY

Mets fans don’t deserve a player like this. I’m a Mets fan, read all the comments on places like this and on Metsmerized, and I can honestly say we have the most hateful, spiteful and idiotic fans in the league. Even Phillies fans are less trash. If I was given the God given talent to play this sport at the MLB level, I would never play for this team. Not because of anything more than their fans. We couldn’t even appreciate Carlos Beltran when he was here either. He carried the team during that playoff run years ago then struck out on a hellacious back door curveball by a great pitcher. I’ve seen some of the greats like Pujols, Harper, and everyone’s golden boys Judge and Jetsr strike out on as well. Mets fans don’t know how to appreciate greatness. They always want someone else until they get them. If you don’t believe me, just read what’s written on this very board. “Ain’t worth the money,,” “stupid signing by Cohen,” “doesn’t deserve to be an all-star.” Smdh, LFGM.

Betts (if you count him as a SS) Turner, Henderson, Witt Jr, Seager, and Correa I think are all better overall. I do think Lindor is better than Abrams, De La Cruz, O Cruz, Tovar, Adames, Winn, and Bichette. Lindor is certainly one of the better defensive shortstops, certainly better than Betts and Turner; cant speak on the others, i just dont understand why people think he shouldve been an allstar. 3 NL shortstops were better choices. Lindor had a higher oWAR than Harper somehow until you realize he was leading the NL in PA which was close to 90 more than Harper at the time. I think he numbers were boosted by some wild positional adjustments that are less needed in today MLB where the trend has been toward positionless baseball and where every player can pick up and learn every position pretty quickly

Too add to why some Mets fans still view him poorly, I remember he turned down the first big extension offer by the Mets and it dragged out the negotiations basically until opening day. So with him not preforming early on, after pushing for a higher offer definitely bothered some fans. But what he's done since his first month as a Met has been nothing but outstanding, and he's going to go down as the best SS the Mets have ever had and one of the best overall players they've ever had in their franchise. Hopefully more people start appreciating what we're watching day in and day out. He deserves every bit and more of that contract if you ask me.

The biggest thing about Lindor. He learned to just love the game of baseball. It was cemented in Cleveland when he found a brotherhood. Remember how I'm 14-1 in fantasy? Well i need ur advice bc i made a trade just because i saw Elly De La Cruz was in it. I traded for him thinking he could play second, but he can't. So heres the dilemma. I traded my starting 2nd baseman (jordan Westburg) and mookie is injured. Heres what my lineup looks like and how many points per game theh average: C. Adley Rutschman 3.9 1B. Bryce Harper 5.3 2B. (Empty) 0.0 SS. Bobby Witt Jr. 5.3 3B. J-Ram 5.0 OF. Teoscar Hernandez 3.4 OF. Jarren Duran 3.8 OF. Ian Happ 3.5 UTL. Alec Bohm 4.3 BE. Jazz Chissolm Jr. 3.2 BE. Elly De La Cruz 4.3 So, Elly can only play SS and 3B. So who do I bench/most likely trade to play Elly? I'd like to keep Bohm as a starter just because of how good he's been this year, but idk, help. I'd also need a 2B I could reasonably get till Mookie Betts comes back (according to espn on 8/2)
@3-0Greenlight5 ай бұрын
That's tough. Witt and J-Ram are both guys you can't take out. I guess it would have to be Bohm. Maybe you can swing a deal to send Bohm somewhere and put Elly at UTL. Betts shouldn't be out for too much longer so I would just go to the free agents and stream a 2B until then.

@Lowbudgetsports5 ай бұрын
Great video! Nobody thinks Lindor is bad. Playing devils advocate as a padres fan also having buyers remorse about a shortstop (Xander) it’s not about him being bad, when you pay a guy 250+ million in this day and age, you want more than accumulation stats, you want him to come up clutch in big moments, you want every at bat to be much watch baseball. He was when he was hitting 30+ home runs, now he’s just sorta there, would you take him on ur team? Sure. But not for 34 million dollars a year. You look at a guy like shohei as the basis for contract value it seems, and if you are telling me lindor is half as valuable as Ohtani it’s just not true. It’s all relative so this is just my opinion of course, but if I have 35 million dollars, give me shohei as a hitter or Aaron judge every day. Defense is great but you can get defensive value for a lot less if ur not worried about offense, and you can probably find salvageable defenders to fill in for one really good one. Sorta like in moneyball you can find 3 average or slightly above average defenders to replace one really good one for a lot less money, you sign lindor for his offense at the end of the day.
@3-0Greenlight5 ай бұрын

I'd like to offer up some reasons why Lindor isn't valued as much as his fans think he should be. 1.) His huge contract -- yes, he's a good SS, but MLB is littered with good SS not earning nearly as much money. 2.) His batting. Whereas some players are clutch batters in pivotal moments in games, Lindor usually falls flat. His production seems to come in games wherein the Mets are far ahead or far behind. He was hired to be an impact player, but he has had very little impact on game outcomes. 3.) His demeanor -- "Mr. Smile" glad-handing people come across as fake, fake, fake. 4.) His appearance -- he seems to spend more time in a hair salon than a batting cage. And his fancy, flashy shoes and gloves. He's considered narcissistic. His ego is perceived to be greater than his talent.

This video barely acknowledges the things that explain why people don’t like him. It comes down to his horrible starts and the impact it had on the team’s success. This year is the worst. The narrator mentions that Lindor was hitting .229 at the end of May. What he doesn’t mention is that three days earlier, he was hitting .201 - and that he was below 200 for a long time, with incredibly low OBP etc. That atrocious start played a major role in the Mets’ terrible start. If he had just played decently, the Mets now would be in a far more comfortable position for the playoffs. His yearly stats look fine, but they’re deceptive because they don’t give you a sense of those Aprils and Mays, which played a big role in putting the Mets in a hole. He bears a heavy responsibility for those failed seasons. Those epic slumps diminished the team’s win total.

I’m a Mets fan and we have the dumbest most reactionary fans in the game we don’t appreciate him we don’t appreciate Beltran but if mediocre homegrown guys like Pete and Conforto struggle and we point that out we’re “fake fans”. Worst fanbase in baseball and that’s coming from a Mets fan

Your conclusion is that he’s misunderstood because other players production decreased too!? Another excuse maker. Lindor is a very good player….just not the monster he’s being paid to be…..period

😂 That quote may fly in CLE but in NY if you lost game 7 of the world series. Thats not a successful season. U better be let down.

I think he was just happy with the development and that he was confident that they would be back and win it in the next few years.

If he could be just a decent player for the next 5 years he'll pretty much be a lock for the HOF. 70 Career war would put him in the top 10 all time SS. He's certainly on pace believe it or not

I had completely forgotten Asdrubel played for the Mets. He always seemed to play better against the Tigers. He was frustrating to watch for that reason as a Tigers fan, but he was a good player

For the value they have been getting I think it's been a good deal for both sides. Not to mention Cohen can afford to hand over more money and not have to sacrifice elsewhere. With that being said will he still be this dominant when he's in his late 30s? Probably not. So it'll be interesting to see how he fares during those years.
