Franco Bonisolli sings "Ah si, ben mio" & "Di quella pira"

Franco Bonisolli sings Manrico's aria in F-minor ("Ah si, ben mio") and the stretta ("Di quella pira") from Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi. It's unnecessary to say that the stretta IS in key, i.e. in C-major. (Rehearsal, 2000.)
I'm sorry for the poor quality, but I think that Franco Bonisolli, one of the greatest Manricos ever (even if not THE greatest, but let's not forget about Lauri-Volpi, del Monaco, Corelli and others...) can easily make you forget the poor quality of this recording, and I hope You will enjoy this, as well as the other parts of this rehearsal.

Franco was 62 years old in this recording and yet he sang better and more heroically than the pathetic figures now known as opera singers, among them: Kauffman, Cura, Alagna, Alvarez, etc. Rest in peace Franco "Bonisolli" the eternal Manrico, the one who was once called il pazzo, but what we did not suspect was that we would be refens of mediocre singers and without personality, I'm sure if today a new Franco, past was called crazy, today would be called genius.

He was way past it here. Judging Bonisolli on his late career is unfair- he was mentally ill. The 'pazzo' comments he still receives are kind of cruel. Honestly? Saying that Pavarotti was the King of the High Cs was nothing but a publicity campaign. Everyone knew the real King was Bonisolli. RIP Maestro

Well said-Pav was overrated. I always found Pav's voice dry. Franco always gave an exciting performance in spite of his later mental problems.

Makes me sad to see this. His voice is not the result of an advanced age, but of a destructive singing technique used for too long. Seeing only this you will not have any idea how beautiful, clear and radiant his voice was when he was young. To get an idea how beautiful a voice still can be in the sixties of a tenor you should listen to Maestro Bergonzi.

I seriously and respectfully disagree. Bergonzi has kind of a fake voice while advancing in age, "ampoulé" as we say in french, and unnaturally soft. Yes Bonisolli is excessive, but he is true to himself

Very impresive, as always but without singing the whole partiture ( all notes as written) it sounds as intertainment with few hight notes and nothing more.! Vivva Mutti
