Vero! Molto spesso si prendeva delle libertà... E se lo poteva permettere.. Ce ne fossero di tenori come Bonisolli nell'assessuato (per rispondere al titolo del video forse un po irriverente) panorama vocale di oggi con tenori dalla voce microscopica e senza nessuna personalità! Quindi viva Bonisolli!

Ladies and gentlemen, I may be somewhat biased. That said, I have browsed and listened live to dozens and dozens of dramatic tenors in this role. This one is unsurpassed. Let alone the precision, the addiction to the score. What strikes one immediately is the laser like precision, what Verdi might have dreamed of. And then....the testosterone, not in the merely physical sense...but the universal. The explosion of the human potential, both as a human being and as an artist. Thank you, Bonisolli, thank you YT and thanks to the uploader.

Bonisolli was an almost exact contemporary of Luciano Pavarotti. I heard both live in the opera house in appropriate roles. I heard Pavarotti more often but I enjoyed Bonisolli more. Honest ear witness testimony. Make of it what you will.

Bonisolli was in a different class compared to pav and he got much less credit. It's a shame.

Pavarotti didn't sing with such a full chested voice. Different techniques, Franco's was more open throat, more free.

Bonisolli was ill treated and so under appreciated. The world thinks big Pavarotti who enlarged his body by over eating pasta, be a biggest voice on earth... and being casual with a white handkerchief waving in front of black piano be a sign of less elite tall figure to love. In the end, most people are framing opera and artist as something too high to reach to love, Pavarotti did a fantastic job to market opera to lower the bar of entry. I love young pavarotti's voice and appearance, but it never reached the excitement of Franco Bonisolli, such a unique exciting artist!

I heard Bonisolli many times live in the theater, Domingo too. I liked them both. They sang many of the same roles and I would have tried to attend either one of their performances. Bonisolli was more fun. Domingo was a better musician and actor. Bonisolli had a better extreme top. Bonisolli was as you know called "Il Pazzo" - the crazy man. It wasn't until after his death that we learned that Bonisolli had long had a brain tumor. Maybe that accounted for some of his erratic behavior or maybe he was just very extroverted. In fact the great tenor with the oddest behavior was probably Michele Molese. @@ClergetMusic

I would have loved to see Bonisolli in person: I love his concert recording of Je Crois Entendre Encore and Che Gelida Manina, and I have to be careful because I’m not a spinto like he is (I actually think he’s a dramatic, but I read he is a spinto somewhere): I’m a lyric tenor. I have enjoyed Bonisolli ever since I discovered his recordings on KZbin a few years ago. I think my distaste for Domingo is because of the same reason many people don’t like the Patriots: he’s actually that good.

Giaffi Alfageme ...lanza non ha mai cantato in teatro...la sua tecnica di canto era alta di posizione,quindi non cantando con il diaframma non poteva competere ne con Bonisolli,ne con Corelli...semmai con Bocelli!!! Non voglio far cambiare idea a chi non la pensa come me...la mia opinione è questa,e credo sia "abbastanza" veritiera...cordiali saluti

Domingo definitely did not get the B in 1988. It was spliced it. It was done very well, but I realized that the acoustic was off.

Of course, comparisons with -mingo have been made. "I like better", "I love", "I prefer" are blatantly personal choices; anyone is surely entitled to those, but spare us the authoritative assertions. As for "democracy" in opera (?????), if millions of flies feast on shit, that doesn't make it better food. About technique, it's audacious to defy a person you know only through a post. But if you have listened to singers since Zenatello to Marcello Giordano (including Pertile, Solovyanenko and hundreds more), not just live in your hometown theater but in hundreds of records, you can reasonably recognise a good technique and a shitty one. Just realized Bonisolli has a very good bottom! Even Corelli or Del Monaco didn't have a good bottom and the ones with good bottom lacked a good top like domingo. But bonisolli is almost perfect.

Andriy Bilan MDM is one of the most developed dramatic tenors in recorded history, Lauri Volpi who was incredible of voice and very strict on judging, said that MDM very possibly had the best B flat he ever heard. He is by default, but also obviously, clearly bigger, and clearly darker than Bonisolli. Even though bigger voices record worse compared to how they sound live, you can hear in “Niun mi tema”, in Norma duets, in “Dio mi potevi” when he doesn’t use piano/mezzo-piano, in “Nessun dorma” at the very start, and a lot of other recordings, that MDM does not have a worse bottom than Bonissoli.. I also like how you suddenly threw Corelli out of the conversation.. nevermind, not everybody has the same ears

Duke is not a softy easy stuff, and this particular aria demands dynamic singing with anger and passion. Franco did it perfectly, but Otello is not his role at all. Do not confuse yourself.

Hey dipshit. The high D is an interpolated note. It's not even written in the score. He doesn't need to hit it for you or anyone else approval. On top of that, he sure sounds youthful and masculine and virile regardless of his age here.

ERIC GARBUTT You may wish to listen to him singing O Souverain, Una Furtiva Lacrima or O Soave Fanciulla (just 3 of many)... Musically this man was exceptional, to say nothing of his astounding voice. I think he was a true Artist in the midst of many counterfeits!

Maybe you think only of Caruso be "artist" !? Franco is a gigantic true artist with his unique style, might be too strong to certain people. He is 100 times stronger than today's cardboard noise with microphone enlargement.

I heard Franco Bonisolli for the first time sing The Duke --- on KZbin. His voice was incredibly beautiful. A great & wonderful sound. So clear / pristine, as beautiful as Pavarotti, but more dramatic & incisive & maybe more beautiful on a totally different level of that word. Listening to him in this video, the purity is gone. The quality of his earlier voice projection is gone. His voice, here, sounds more hard-edged. He sacrificed a lot for a more dramatic sound. It reminds me of Olga Borodina / Ewa Podles. Such ravishingly-sounding lyrical voices who became formidable in the group of mezzo-sopranos & contraltos, respectively. I know you like Franco Bonisolli. Do you think the "sacrifice" was worth it ?
