It's amazing what music can do...I understood not a word of this, but for some inane reason the trumpets at the start of the song make me think of Cuba..everytime I hear the trumpet sound I think "Viva La Revolucion!" I have absolutely no idea why!

The song Kinsiona which mean "bereaved" Franco remembers his kid brother Bavon Marie Marie who died in a fatal road accident after arguing with Franco who was against Bavon's habit of consulting witch-doctors. That material day, Franco came home from an evening mass as he was a staunch Catholic and found Bavon's face rubbed in a concoction from a local witch-doctor which he used to bleach his skin so that he can be famous like Franco. Franco was furious with his sibling and told Bavon this was against Christianity belief and that him(Bavon) can be famous through hard work and not the colour of his skin. This made Bavon furious telling his elder brother that he was jealous and that he feared competition. He then rushed out and entered his Pick-up truck and drove off with his face covered with white staff which made him partially see the road. The unexpected happened when he hit a stationary army truck which had broken down in the middle of the road hitting it head-on.The rest is history...Franco had a brother, Bavon and an elder Sister a Nun at a catholic church in Kinshasa. This was my first time hearing this version of the story. The skin bleaching is correct but the story goes people were the ones who were using witchcraft to get at Bavon due to jealously. And the car accident part wasn't due to white substance covering his eyes but it was caused by him not paying attention while driving. He was arguing with the mother of his child, who was with him in the car, over child custody. He hit an incoming truck.

I've listening to a lot of Congolese music throughout my life never understand what they're saying, but just enjoy the melodies and harmonies, I think there's no comparisons for congolese and African harmonies. I first listen to this song 18 months ago, for some innate reason I started shedding tears I was sad that day but this song makes me sadder, can someone pls tell me what the great man is singing about.

My unsolicited two cents. The human voice is an instrument. It has abstract qualities as well as literary qualities. The abstract qualities are an important poetry. People listen to opera and think nothing of the fact that they can't understand the language. They do pick up on the subtle emotions conveyed by the singer. Franco sure assembled talents that were the best that the human voice has to offer (on any country or continent). He also got the greatest uncompromised compositions from them.
