Great video as usual Mark I'd be happy with any of those chub never mind a barbel ! and what a cracking fish it was too.Well worth the wait.Thank you for the time and effort you put into making these vids always interesting and well filmed...always something of value to be learned Keep 'em rolling !
@francolinobasco8 жыл бұрын
Hello there John, thanks for the kind words, believe me I was very happy with the chub, there is some fine ones that reside in the river, the barbel left me a bit breathless to be fair, thoughts of it making for a nasty snag downstream were on my mind, that and overspilling with excitement. It is always appreciated when you chaps take the time to pen a comment and watch one of my vlogs.

well mark we've missed you as you can tell !! . always thinking of the viewer first it's great, congratulations on a great start to the season. You're videos are second to none on KZbin. and I still think you should do the voice over on wildlife TV programmes you have that type of voice ha ha . awesome angler , awesome video and awesome guy ...... thanks Andy
@francolinobasco8 жыл бұрын
Andrew that is very nice of you to say, I thought I would try to get the footage of playing the barbel as sometimes not being able to and then holding a fish to show you guys makes it a bit disjointed and missing that middle ingredient that is the scrap, thank you for the warm words.

well done mark, sometimes things don't go to plan but that's a great first barbel to kick the season off.
@francolinobasco8 жыл бұрын
Cheers Mark, that is very true, sometimes you get the rub of the green and other times it balances itself out. I thought it would be nice to show both trips and both sides of the coin so to speak.
@MarkCarp8 жыл бұрын
you're right to do that mark, it presents a more balanced picture of what goes into your fishing rather than just the successes, sometimes an awful lot of effort goes in for little result, that's certainly the case with my fishing, plenty of failures along the way...lol

I've forgotten how hard barbel go! Some lovely chub, and that barbel was a beauty! Really enjoyable video mate! Tom
@francolinobasco8 жыл бұрын
Hey Tom, they do go don't they? Never fail to make this angler a bit dry in the mouth and excitable, although that said you and I get the same feeling from chub on the balanced tackle. Cheers mate.

Definitely mate! They are such a fine quarry and hoping to allocate some time for them some point this season. No worries mate, always a good watch!

Very nice video Mark and great catch! I really enjoyed to see you back on the bank of your little river. And crayfish or goby, same result it seems.
@francolinobasco8 жыл бұрын
Cheers Thomas and I agree crayfish or goby same difference, invasive species are such a disruptive force on both our rivers my friend.

Excellent as always Mark, stunning chub and barbel. Not had a barbel yet myself this season on River Tees but had some good chub I'll keep plugging away and hope the next ones a double. Tight lines Paul.

Quality video mark and top angling! I ended up with a 4.10 chub that night but I succumb to the rain by 11pm! See you soon :)
@francolinobasco8 жыл бұрын
Hey Liam, it was nice to meet you again on the bank! That rain was a bit keen wasn't it, I know I felt it without the waterproofs, fleece was wet through. Glad you caught, it's a bit of a slowish start as we discussed and I think that is being mirrored on other rivers, but they are there even if bites are at a bit of a premium right now.
@costaskarpi65118 жыл бұрын
nice one mark, like many of your subscribers i was also eagerly anticipating your next video :-) and very much enjoyed it. I am only just getting back into fishing after a long time away from it, and your videos certainly do inspire. next week I am on the river Dove in Staffordshire so fingers crossed for me. I also made your cheese paste recently and it turned out really good! but instead of the krill I used fish sauce ( what is used in Asian cooking) was very happy with it. looking forward to your next video and for me catching my first barbel in probably 20 years. all the best to you
@francolinobasco8 жыл бұрын
Hello there Costas! Glad that you find the videos so engaging I really enjoy making them, best of luck to you on the Dove, I have seen pictures of some of the barbel from that waterway and they look stunning as does the river itself, I hope you get your line well tugged mate. The cheese paste recipe has served me well and it's one of those baits you can really chop change and tweak with the addition of other ingredients, the fish sauce sounds a good idea.

What camera set up do you use Mark?
@francolinobasco8 жыл бұрын
the action camera is called a gitup git2, i did previously use ones called Jobo jib4, but the plug in container used to have issues with my editing software, so would have to be converted before i could edit and render. So I bought the gitup git 2, which is like a copy of a go pro but way cheaper really. My main camera for filming scenes where I am holding fish or like where I was playing the barbel is a Panasonic Lumix gh series camera.

Your videos are always quality mark,fish or no fish and what does it matter if your batteries go kerplunk..........no need to apologise for it. Good start to the season for you,keep up the good work sir.
@francolinobasco8 жыл бұрын
Thank you Nick, well I always feel a bit let down for you guys, especially if the batteries tail off or die suddenly and need changing, it's always a bit of a gamble knowing how long to let the action cam roll for when you do get a tap or twitch to the rod tip, sometimes it pays off and other times the battery runs out just as you get a full blooded bite.Thank you again for regularly watching the vlogs.
@nenemannick44558 жыл бұрын
Don`t be daft,no need to feel you`re letting anyone down. I`m a regular watcher because it`s the type of fishing I love to do,real kind of crabtree stuff I suppose and I`ve never done enough of it. Top man mark.......tight lines to you.

Inspiring as ever Mr E. I'm wanting to improve my bait choices. When you say glugged is that dipped in something? and I'm so curious for a tip on what is in the delish ground bait mix? - I know your fav bird seed will be part in the mix shown here.... :-) thanks.
@francolinobasco8 жыл бұрын
Hello there and thank you. The mixture you see is only bird seed, nothing else mixed in with it, just bird seed, no other components other than the seed itself, although I do use a groundbait mix with the seed sometimes. You're absolutely correct when I say glugged I mean dipped in a matching bait dip for the baits I am using, just to give a little extra leak off/scent trail. I generally don't use paste to wrap my baits in until later in the season, usually autumn/winter.

Great videos Mark as always. Do you ever fish the small back parts of the Loddon near Sandford Road? I'm after my first barbelhaving moved to the area, had loads of big chub but wander if the barbel get in these slower smaller sections?
@francolinobasco8 жыл бұрын
Hello there Oliver and thank you for the kind comment, they certainly are throughout the slower sections (I presume you mean around the Dinton area so to speak) ,although biomass/populace does vary as well as them being fairly transient.

Hi Mark, another great video. Can I ask you about your snail boilies as I am interested in trying them. Are they homemade or bought ones. I tried using Water snails the ones you buy mixed with Hemp as bait on a hair but when I opened the can they were very small and needed to put at least 6 on to make decent bait. Regards Steve
@francolinobasco7 жыл бұрын
Of course Steve, I'm happy to help, I know the water snails that you're on about they are rather small as baits go. The Snail boilies are bought in base mix form by myself from Essential baits and then I roll them to the consistency and inclusion rates of oils that I prefer. Although you can buy them as freezer baits or shelf lifes, the reason I prefer to roll them myself is because I like to make the base mix as hard as I possibly can to negate the attentions of crayfish, to do so I use a Ryobi cordless Caulking gun that I have adapted to take the plunger from a Gardner boilie gun, this allows me to pump out very dense boilie mixtures, something that would be impossible with a handheld gun. Sorry for the long winded reply, basically you can purchase the snail base mix from the Essential baits website.
@stevehodges40927 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info Mark it was very interesting. As I don't have a Crayfish problem where I fish I have ordered some of the shelf life Snail boilies. Also what make of Rucsac is the one in your videos as it looks like it has a lot of useful attachment straps on it unlike many on sale. Regards, Steve

You're welcome Steve, the Rucksack I use is about four years old now and weathering very well. it is made by a company called "Mil-tec" and available on amazon and ebay for around £22 for the 20 litre model although larger options are available,it is rubberised internally and has many Molle options on the outside so great for your mat and rod rests etc, also has a pocket for a water bladder too.
