Glad you enjoyed this one! The thing about Frank is when he’s sober? He’s actually a decent human being. He has bouts of soberness in the show- not long, but enough to give the kids hope and then dash it again. He’s funny, really smart, inventive. He gets on these tangents and makes impassioned speeches that sadly you can fully agree with. He could have been a good dad if he cared about them more than alcohol and drugs. He didn’t. However, he did love them in his own way. The kids all have their moments with Frank, except Ian. (Who is not biologically his, but actually is his brother Clayton’s son. Monica cheated. No surprise there.) and even knowing Ian wasn’t his, he still treated him like his own. Frank is just wasted potential all around, and it’s sad. I will say though, He found out about Ian and Mickey very very early on in the show and didn’t say a peep to anyone. Fiona dealt with a lot more with Frank than anyone else. General consensus most of the fans have? Frank fucked up but he was at least mostly there. Monica cut out over and over again. Monica was worse, and that’s saying something.

I remember when Ian and Mickey got married, Frank was emotional and shared it a happy tear. So sad Monica and his mother ruined him so much, he would be an amazing father.

I've been loving the shameless reaction! Frank could have been a good dad but alcohol and addiction got in the way. He was also not raised in a good home. Instead of being a better parent then his parents, he was (debatable) a worse parent. Fiona has her lows in the show. Who wouldn't having to raise 5 kids, who did not appreciate her all the time. She deserves to leave and have a good life. I think she was 32 when she left. She was still young but having to give up the fist 32 years of your life is not easy. She didn't have a childhood. A 9 year old worrying how to pay the bills.

He was never worse than his parents, her mother never showed affection to him, her and his father beated the shit out of him, Peggy even forced him to drink when he was a child and we learned later on that she even raped him.

Frank loves his kids, and he is a better parent than his mom and dad, they were beasts. Sadly he is an alcoholic and was almost never able to show affection, but if u wacth the show u can see at some points he really loved all of them

Frank is such a weird/complex character, there were moments in this show where I TRULY felt for him and you could tell he did LOVE his kids (in his roundabout fucked up way), but shit all it did cuz he was not cut out to be a parent. He let his addiction rule who he was and that broke all his personal relationships. The very few times he was sober or attempting to be sober on his show is when you realize how layered Frank really is and deep deep deep down he's just another lost soul.
