1 of the things I love about this movie is you should never judge a book by its cover. As menacing as he is, Frank is actually trying to save the universe by guiding the living receiver (Donnie).

I feel like this video doesn't really capture Frank's true essence and purpose very well. What most people don't seem to realize is that Frank actually WASN'T A VILLAIN! He was just the spirit of a guy who made a terrible mistake and went back in time to try and fix it. Plus, you can't hear his voice in the video, and that was part of what made him my favourite character. His mask scarred me for life and keeps me petrified, but sometimes I watch it anyway just because his voice is so calming

Frank is by far my scariest movie character. I saw a trailer for this film when I was 10 and ran out the room before I could catch the title. I was clueless what this mystery terrifying film was for about a year until I saw the face on a dvd cover in a library. I bought the film, watched it until I saw this scene, and didn't watch it again for many more months..

While possibly based on this, I don't think that's the point of the character. I always saw him as a representation of death, taunting Donnie because he cheated him. Though, the plot is quite subjective and interpretations very much differ from person to person.

This screen has absolutely no limits it can display or render anything that you can imagine and even more. RIght now it happens to be rendering and displaying what's right here. What we can do though is imagine that to this screen runs a giant wire and this wire hooks up to this giant mixing board with hundreds of knobs and each one of these knobs can be tuned and adjusted fine-tuned to change what is being displayed. It's like if you twist this knob here the colors will become more vivid, you twist this knob here the colors will dim, you twist this knob here the sounds will go wonky, they'll become louder or softer, you twist this knob here and you'll feel emotion you'll feel love or anger or hatred or jealousy or sadness, you twist this knob over here and your body morphs, your hand will morph into a tentacle, you twist a little bit more it turns into a claw, you twist a little bit more it turns into a wing, you twist a little more turns into something else and you can twist all of these and all of these knobs control everything that's being rendered and displayed on this screen called consciousness

He sees him because Donnie is a vessel of some entity, wether it be destiny or god or something like that. Frank is actually a guy who has been killed in a 'wrong' timeline. If the timeline were correct, he would not have been killed. That is why he uses Donnie to set it right, because if not, the universe will collapse. By the way, the film is sad. Only the mask is somewhat scary.

What really made it Frank freaky was not the costume nor the voice, both were cool as shit, but the opera music that played whenever he showed up. Gives me goosebumps everytime, worst part is, is when it gets stuck in your head and you keep looking over your shoulder waiting for something worse to get ya.

The scene in the movie that still freaks the shit outta me to this very day is the scene in which Donnie is in the psychiatrist's office having a mental breakdown, he tells the psychiatrist about Frank, and as soon as he does, Frank appears RIGHT IN FUCKING FRONT OF HIM. Jake Gyllenhaal cen fucking act. He seemed legit terrifed in that scene.

He's a premonition, coming in the form of Donnie's doom. The Frank Donnie sees before he's the guy in the car is fate telling Donnie his world is over in x amount of time. Fate takes that form because once Frank really appears in Donnie's life he is forced to end his own existence to save the only thing that made existing worth it for him.
