They know people have mementos they like to hold on to of those that didn't make it this far. They wouldn't care or talk about a broken watch, because it's none of their business. It's the apocalypse and everyone's got a sob story. They're interested in what you can do for them to help them survive. Maybe, after some time has gone by and trust is established, they bring up the watch, but when you're still just a stranger, they wouldn't care. They got bigger shit to worry about.

This should have just been its own spin-off series. Nick carried Parks and Rec and Murray carried the first season of White Lotus. These guys have proved they can carry shows by themselves. This episode was arguably better than the whole show. I mean there's a 10-20 year timeline here they could turn this into a multiseason show.

Preppers are all about imagining the worst for the future. But why not use this energy invested in imagining the negative, to go around actively creating a better and more positive future for the world instead? If everyone in the world adopts this constructive mindset, no one even needs to prep for a negative future anymore. The hidden risk of thinking/prepping only the negative, is that it can sometimes become a never-ending self-fulfilling prophecy. Like how human conflicts are never-ending...because everyone and every country mistrusts one another. (Like how preppers mistrust the future.) It's ultimately all about this choice between Fear or Love. In this scene, BIll is the representation of Fear and mistrust, whereas Frank is a representation of Love and trust. Fear without Love gives you a completely meaningless life, even if you survive. Love without Fear on the other hand doesn't guarantee your survival. Both balances one another.
