It may be just me - but I'd have to hear a VERY compelling argument from Pedro himself that he didn't finish this show a changed man. Especially with what's coming in April. I can't see any possible way that could be the case. How could he not be?

I enjoyed the TV show and I loved a lot of the changes but for me, this scene isn't as great as the original version. Joel in the first game had this dark history, where you sort of understood how far he'd go for survival. It was referenced multiple times but also shown just how brutal of a killer he is. In this show he's shown to wear his emotion openly, while his brother took a hard stance. In the game he's essentially bullying his brother to do his bidding, before realizing how important Ellie meant to Joel. Perhaps this will lead well into season 2 but this scene breaks that earlier mold that we knew Joel of. A hardened killer who has a 'second chance' with a surrogate daughter. Having the finale where you slaughter fireflies while protecting Ellie was exhilarating but also made the ending just that much more of a moral question. Would you sacrifice your loved one for a potential hope for a cure from a dubious rebel group, or would you forego any hope just so you can keep them selfishly?

No, I disagree. Instead of being a hardened killer, a realistic father would actually have nothing to go on for after he lost his child / children (Sarah, in Joel's case). That would make the man disconnect from the world, devoid of empathy and living a ruthless life. Joel in the show is exactly that and now that way of life is having an actual cost on his health making him vulnerable. Then he finds Ellie, and bonds with her so moments where he is sloppy scares him. That's why he goes to Tommy. He needs moral strength more than physical strength as we see what he is capable of doing in the last episode. Spoiler Alert : Wiping the Fireflies out

@@RegulusFlaminiusIndicus I think yours is a more correct take. He doesnt believe himself to have the strength needed to complete the journey or protect Ellie, so he wants the bond and the responsibility taken away from him, otherwise he will be hurt (both emotionally and physically) again. And, as you pointed out, once his resolve is made and clear, he is capable of anything. This scene just served to convince that this character is a human.

Disagree. This is a great scene. Favorite game and this is still my favorite scene with the context. To each their own.
