A great finisher from midfield line in EPL history! However, his career with the England national team was a sad story. He did not get trust from his national teammates just like he got from his Chelsea teammates.

Yes true I have noticed that from watching highlights and full matches. He got into good positions and was making good runs into the Box but he wasn’t always getting the ball.

Yes it’s true he didn’t always get the trust he made good runs forward into the Box but didn’t allways get the ball. He didn’t get the opportunity’s to score like he did at Chelsea at Chelsea he had a great understanding with his team mates they allways found him and was great at shooting from distance. But for England he wasn’t the same player as he was for Chelsea but wasn’t all his fault terrible management wrong formations egos.

He did ok for England but could of done so much better. Watching him play for Chelsea scoring all those goals and getting lots of assists made me think wow England have a great player he is going to do well in the World Cup but it didn’t work out that way. He played well in Euro 2004 and scored 3 goals.

I would hv sacrificed Gerrard over lampard if I was England manager. Too bad not a single manager was bold enough and forced both to play at the same time which is ineffective

both were great players which is why they both played but gerrard was all round better than lampard so if you had to choose one lamps would be getting the boot

I think Gerrard was the more versatile player and Lampard the better finisher.... both were great and the choice comes down to preference. I agree you that the manager should have chosen one of them in a 4-4-2. I think it was more obvious to play a 4-3-3 and have both plus a sitting/defensive midfielder. This was Mourinho's initial plan for Chelsea. If Gerrard went to Chelsea in 2005 this would have amazing for England.

@@aliamir6498 myth. Lampard's disipline, game intelligence, passing, finishing, defensive and attacking postioning > Gerrard's. All I'd give Gerrard is he was more aggressive and full throttle - which is ironically why he lacked a lot of Lampard's mental capacity.

Gerrard played better for England than Lampard did. Lampard scored more goals 29 goals but 9 of them were Penalties and Lampard didn’t score in 2006 or 2010 World Cups despite having the most shots in World Cup history no assists either. And didn’t play that well in 06 or 10
