Kudos to Steelcase, firstly for recognizing an important heritage property and secondly for writing a blank check to do it right.

If you lived in a FLW house at the turn of the century, you lived in the future. That residence is more modern than anything currently being built and is higher in quality. What a genius that man was.

Our Great Grandfather was Ernest Spierling who was in in business with Mr Linden, they owned Linden and Spierling glass and interior decor they were the preferred glass makers for Frank Lloyd Wright. The business was in Chicago on Michigan Ave.

Very nice! The glass between the bricks in the fireplace, the original bathroom fixtures, the original casement windows, and especially the way Mr. Wright intended light to play throughout the house is spectacular. Very good video and gorgeous house.

It's hard to believe that home was built in 1908. It's a testament to the architectural genius of FLLW and how far advanced and ahead of his time he was. That home if built today would look like a modern home and is better than homes being built today with better quality.

My home town of Wichita has a Wright designed home and one commercial building. My favorite parts of the home are the oak woodwork and the leaded glass windows. I’m big fan of Mission style and Art Deco.

Amy Lee, the shower was impressive, especially considering the technology was from 1909. The outside is imposing, and much of the metal work is patina copper. I was especially taken with the "tiger oak" pattern in the doors. There was so much that really can't be experienced through video, but I thought Bev did an outstanding job especially in close quarters with only ambient light. Thanks! Paul

I think and a lot of others do also FLW was a century a ahead of his time his homes look like they were designed so far in the future nothing like those of the time of queen anne style.

I believe you are right. His designs do seem ahead of their time, but perhaps they simply are what set the style of the time to come. Truly a beautiful house.

In the kitchen, were there insulated ice boxes? (as refrigerator(s)). Or perhaps was there a kerosene operated refrigerator?

I really don't recall now. It's been years since we made this episode. It seems like there was an oak ice-box, but I cannot be certain.

Ettore, in a manner of speaking, I suppose yes. They do look quite similar, but are not truly "twins" in the strictest sense of the word. They were both designed around the same time, and are both a part of what is called the Prairie Style. We are hoping to do a series of videos in the Chicago area in the near future, and IF it is possible I will see if we can cover the Robie house. That might be nice. Thanks for watching and commenting!! Paul

It is pieces of glass that had metallic particles sprinkled on it, then heated to about 2000 degrees, forming the colors. After it is cooled then the brick masons put the glass in the mortar joint. When the sun hits it, the glass glows. Found at 6:48 - 7:12 I hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching!
