He really doesn't make any good points. Try and understand even one of his three points - they aren't really points, more just verbal diarrhoea with no real substance. The reason this is so funny is because Frank responds in an equally bizarre way, and literally no one in the audience has a clue what's going on. I think they're both being childish here. Obviously yes Gerry points out inconsistencies in Frank's book, yes, but to what end?

Frank McCourt was entitled to write about his childhood, which was miserable by any standards. This joker was more worried about Limerick's image than anything else. Richard Harris gave a very good interview about Angela's Ashes. He calls it a pack of lies too. Be wary of people's memoires. I abhorred the Call the Midwife books. My family came from Poplar and the dotty author has all the woman there as either slatterns, whores or the products of incest. What a lie and an insult to the women of the East End who had recently struggled with the Blitz and World War 2. My partner came acoss this dotty author in his bookstore and she was rude and demanded that her sordid little book was elevated in the shop window! Now the BBC promote her lies in an excrable tv show of the same name. She was a bored retired nurse who decided to make money off the backs of her poor patients. Good Riddence to Her!

Why wasn't Frank McCourt allowed to actually answer the man's accusations? Why would an audience member be allowed to attack a guest like that and ramble on interrupting him when he tried to respond? Very bad control of the show.

It is interesting to see another side to his version, the man in the audience is not the first person to question McCourt about the inconsistencies in the book, he would not be the first person to be a little creative with the truth.

Its good to know that after the show they both had a few pints in the local boozer, had a right good sing song on the karaoke (pretty sure Gerry was singing that 'ol classic Billy Ray Cyrus number about the Achy Breaky Heart) and Gerry and him became bosom buddies.
