This song (like much of the album) has a curiously warm and intimate, yet bleak, lonely and distant feel to it all at the same time. Like that feeling when the sun comes up on a winters' morning and despite the fact there's a clear blue sky, you still need to rug up because the breeze is blowing and there's nobody around to keep warm with... Frank's voice has this deep, soulful and often intimate feel to it, yet the music and lyrics have a loneliness and a bleakness to them. This song and 'Solo' are two great examples from this particular record. Yet where a band like The Smiths (another group I'd describe as 'bleak') bring to mind dark, overcast skies and rain-soaked streets in some grimy northern English town, a lot of Franks' stuff brings to mind the blue, open skies of California, Miami or the Gold Coast and that sense of being 'lost in the crowd', those times where you're not alone physically, but it feels like you might as well be... Best way I can describe it if I stop to do so, and probably the best I can explain why I keep coming back to listen again...

I genuinely thought we could have been more than friends but no point in orbiting around someone who’s taken. It just hurts a little having to accept that I can’t protect her smile and laughter. I listened to this album when I started to catch feelings for her. I was so stressed cause the last time I caught feelings it didn’t end very well I was depressed for months and it was dangerous. But thankfully she’s a better person and the feelings aren’t as painful. I’m glad she is part of my life even though her stay won’t be permanent. I really love that change in the song around 0:57. It’s not particularly loud or abrupt, but the sparseness of those drums from the beginning of the song makes it feel all the more impactful. It even fits the lyrics too, with the whole idea of the “morning haunting us with the beams” being reflected in how the strings (I think?) come flooding through. They’re beautiful in their own way, but sudden and slightly disorienting.

I always liked this album a lot when it first came out, but I was not mature enough to understand what Frank was signing about. Last summer I started revisiting the album, and at the same time I met a guy that I really liked. We met each other every day and did everything together for two weeks, and even though it went by so fast it felt like we had known each other forever. I got to meet his friends and he got to meet my friends, and that is something that means a lot to Me. To be fair, I still feel like he is and was the love of my life. I have never had this strong connection with anyone. But What seperated us, was the fact that we were both going home for the summer to our parents, and he was going to study abroad for 6 years. I still miss him a lot, and I struggle to talk with other boys. The night before we went home, we were hiking and slept outside in the woods. We listened to both skyline to and self control, while watching the sunset and sunrise. I remember the exact feeling I got when I realised what these songs actually were saying (At least what They meant to me). For him it was just chill songs, but for me They Are special. I still cant listen to them without crying. I hope it hets better and I can be stronger. I just want to thank Frank Ocean for making Me feel so much. I have always been a boy who was afraid to cry. So thank Frank.

I remember I the one of the first time I listened to this i was on break from community college taking a walk at my grandparents house on the Westbank outside of New Orleans. Now its been a decade since I graduated HS. My grandparents are both alot older and this saddens me. Ive grown alot since 2017 but seemingly picked up a lot of unneeded baggage that I feel weighed down by now. This is only a song and an album, but its so much more. it's so timeless. I love you all. 2024 baby. I remember listening to this whole album off 3 geltabs with my girlfriend in high school senior year summer. Miss being an innocent little boy.

This used to be one of my least favorite songs in this album, but this song just like every single other one has reeally grown on me the more I listen to it. Crazy how absolutely every song in this album is such a banger.

I was in 10th grade when this came out. Life was simple and it was good. This album is my time capsule, to escape the lonely life i contend with today.

This is joy, this is summer Keep alive, stay alive Got your metal on, we're alone Making sweet love, takin' time 'Til God strikes us That's a pretty fucking fast year flew by That's a pretty long third gear in this car Glidin' on the five The deer run across, kill the headlights Pretty fucking, underneath moonlight now Pretty fucking, sunrise in sight In comes the morning, haunting us with the beams Solstice ain't as far as it used to be It begins to blur, we get older (Blur!) Summer's not as long as it used to be Everyday counts like crazy (Smoke, haze) Wanna get soaked? Wanna film a tape on the speed boat? We smell of Californication Strike a pose Everything grows in the Congo Everything grows Can you come when I call again? On comes the evening, gold seeking ends Piece in my hands worth twice than a friend And two limbs over shoulder, carried away Because I'm stronger and the Congo is dim (smoke) In comes the morning (smoke) In comes the morning (haze)
