This song was written for Frank Sinatra by Paul Anka, and was recorded in 1968. Frank would go on to live until well into the 1990s, so he wasn't near done at the time of this recording. I'm always amused by reactors who take the lyrics of these songs as if they're representative of the singer's actual state of mind. In most cases, the singer isn't even the writer of the song, and they're only there to interpret the song. Like an actor playing a role in a movie, it's usually not a non-fiction documentary about the singer's life. It's just a song they've chosen to record because it captures a thought or a mood that they think ought to be put out there. Don't read anything more into it than that. But make no mistake -- there was none better than Frank Sinatra. If there was a Mount Rushmore of male vocalists, Sinatra's face would be the first one they'd chisel into the mountain.

Was written by Paul Anka. But it will always be Sinatra's song. OMG, almost 5 million views! Great entertainer. Beautiful reaction.

Frank Sinatra asked Paul Anka write him a song before his retirement, so Paul Anka wrote "my way"for him for free.

I always felt this to be a poignant reflection when you've reached a certain point later in your life, when you've lived it full and satisfactory, recalling all the good as well as the bad. But knowing that no matter what, you didn't live your life for anyone else but for you. And you lived it on your own triumphant terms.

It's a literal road map for how to be a man, and how to end your career, and your life, with the utmost pride. Young people will never sing this song; but if they CAN'T, the will die with regret.

Fun fact: although it was his biggest hit Frank Sinatra hated this song. He felt it was too self-indulgent.

You could react to the Elvis version of this, it’s by far my favourite. It sounds like he’s singing about his life.

It's NOT sad; it's part of life. Songs are much more than simply happy or sad; this is neither. It's sort of melancholic yet vaguely triumphal.
