He was in Australia years ago & made a joke that rather than "old blue eyes" Aussies called him "old big mouth" after he refused to apologise to unionists in Australia in 1974. His voice was remarkable & he was singing into his 70s. Dean Martin is a huge fave of mine & had a sexy , melted chocolate caramel voice.

Ah, this brought a tear to my eye. My late husband worshiped Frank, being an aspiring "lounge lizard". He had a pretty good voice himself. I don't think you can go wrong with anything Frank did. There are so many ......Luck Be A Lady, Fly Me To The Moon, Nice And Easy, but you might especially enjoy A Foggy Day. He was the bee's knees.

They don't make them like they used to. Frank Sinatra was such a smooth crooner. This is before auto tuning. Artists had to be really able to sing. And the lyrics were clean, romantic & really meant something. He has a huge library of great songs. Some of my favorites are "Fly Me To The Moon", New York, New York", "Strangers In The Night", "I've Got You Under My Skin", "That's Life", "My Kind Of Town", "Summer Wind", "The Way You Look Tonight" etc. And he did a duet with his daughter Nancy called "Something Stupid" in 1967.

A great performance but my all-time favorite was his 1974 concert in Madison Square Garden titled "The Main Event"; the stage was in the center, made to look (at the start of the concert) like a heavyweight prize fight boxing ring, with the audience on all four sides. Howard Cosell, a famous sports announcer, introduced Frank to the stage like he was the heavyweight champ. Frank Sinatra was 59 years old at that time and the audience was filled with celebrities and the mayor of New York City. I can't bring myself to actually "listen" to this song (so I played it through on mute and gave it a LIKE) as we played it along with many other Sinatra favourites at my Mum's wake recently. She loved Frank and Perry Como and always had a tune playing when she was having an afternoon rest. Christmas is going to be very difficult this year when the old standards play everywhere but they also bring back the good memories too of a very down to earth Aussie Battler who loved life.

He purportedly didn't really care for it that much. My mother loved it. She loved it so much that I made sure it was played at her funeral. It wasn't written by Paul Anka. It's a French chanson called "Comme D'habitude" written by Claude Francois and Jaques Revaux. The song was about the famous French singer France Gall. It was a well known song in Europe. Paul Anka just wrote the English lyrics.

He was getting a little age here, and live it usually doesn't sound as crisp (unless its BBC 4, LOL) BUT....This song on the album gives me shivers. not so much live, it loses a little tone. P.S. ole Frank was a Jazz guy, hence this version is jazz in reality, smooth and silky. Ole Chet Baker singing "My Funny Valentine" is about as cool as it gets, he's on another level when it comes to Jazz.

Summer Wind is one of my favorites. He was a favorite of my parents, and I actually did get to see him in concert later in his career, probably 1994. I am glad I had the opportunity, his voice wasn't as strong, but he still sounded great.

Immaculate phrasing and superb technique. However, I think his voice had started to lose something, but maybe that's just the difference between studio recording and a live performance. I'd go for performances earlier than 1970. I think the mix from studio recordings are better, but live is more exciting. Maybe _Frank Sinatra ft. you guys do a great job and I wanted to see what you thought of the "young" Frank Sinatra. Most people born after the 1920's and 1930's have never heard Frankie as young singer, before smoking and drinking altered his voice. This clip is from 1944 and it shows his "velvet" quality, tenor/baritone vocal quality that he had from 1939 to 1946. Frankie was the first teen idol that had a primarily female audience that screamed during his performances and lead to the creation of the teenage youth record/CD/download market and the follow up with new teen idols such as Eddie Fisher 1950 to 1955, Elvis Presley: 1956 to 1964, The Beatles 1964, well you get the picture.
