Did you know that Frank Sinatra stole comedic actor Zeppo Marx’s wife and that Frank’s kids blame the woman in question for their father’s death? Frank Sinatra was married four times over the course of his life, and his marriage to his final wife Barbara seems from the outside to have been the most successful of them all. Frank’s marriage to Barbara was his longest, and he died with her by his side. However, Frank’s children, all of whom came from the crooner’s first marriage, never liked Barbara. In fact, one of them even blames Barbara for their father’s death!

The daughter that seems to blame Barbara the most for Frank Sinatra’s death is Nancy Sinatra Jr. However, there are also some other reasons that Nancy may hold a grudge against her late stepmother. According to Nancy Jr., Barbara was trying to erase Frank’s history and make it appear as if she was the only woman he had ever been married to. Some of the ways that Barbara allegedly attempted to do this included forcing her father to get an annulment from his first wife so that she and he could be married in an official Catholic ceremony, and also trying to talk Frank into adopting her adult son after they were already married.
Though Frank Sinatra lived until the age of 83 despite being a lifelong smoker and drinker, Nancy Sinatra Jr. claims that her father could’ve lived for many years more if it hadn’t been for her cruel stepmother. Following her father’s death, Nancy Jr. didn’t speak to her stepmother until Barbara’s own death. Join Facts Verse as we explore how Frank Sinatra’s daughter feels his final wife was responsible for his death.

I have been a fan of Frank’s singing for as long as I can remember. I was lucky to see Frank in concert in 1974 in Palm Beach Florida and again in Tokyo in 1990. I was also lucky to be staying at the same hotel as The Summit members for Regan’s Jan 1985 inauguration. Suddenly, there they all were, sitting in the cozy bar in the famous Willard Hotel in DC. We sent their table a bottle of Don Perignon. It’s a happy memory. But I have to say, in person, Barbara Sinatra was scary woman. She gave the waiter a steely fake smile and asked “Who sent the Champagne?” I was really, really glad that we had done so anonymously.

I can't speak to any of this because I wasn't there. All I can say is that the man could express himself in song better than anyone I've ever heard. That's why he was such a good actor also. He acted out his songs through the lyrics and every syllable was believable. I've adored his music since childhood and eventually got to see him twice in his waning years. But waning or not, the man was pure magic. And I don't blame his children one bit for not being on board with the annulment. After all, they weren't bastards. They were born to a mother and father who were married at the time. I'm glad that they changed the tombstone, and I'm certain that Mr Sinatra's music will live on as long as Mozart and Beethoven's music has endured.

100% true that the annulment was ridiculous - and ridiculous that the Roman Catholic Church even invented such a thing. It's certainly not found in the Bible. Seems to me like it's like everything else Catholic: "Pay us enough, and we'll make what you want happen."

@@brendanjobe6895 I see you understand the workings of the Catholic Church very well. I attended Catholic School till 8th grade and everything was based around money. Get your tuition in on time, don't forget to bring an envelope for donation on Sunday, don't forget to fill up your mite boxes with silver, and on and on. If you give the Catholic Church enough money they'll canonize you for Christ's sake. If money is the root of all evil, then so is organized religion. They're nothing but huge tax exempt businesses. For me to disregard Frank Sinatra children is an obscene gesture by Barbara Sinatra - shame on her for not considering he had a past which his first wife gave him children but selfishness on Barbara's part is not appropriate for any woman to deem this is correct when it wasn't. I was under the impression that Frank Sinatra requested to Nancy to annul his marriage in order to marry Ava Gardener because Nancy Sr. being a devout Catholic didn’t want to grant him a divorce. Anyway I’m glad I won tickets to his last concert at the Greek Theater a few months before he died. I never saw so many limousines attend a singers concert in all my life. I know that Frank was generous to a fault. He was always doing things for others. He found out that the little church in Palm Springs needed a new steeple. He called his management of his money and told him his wishes. The man was to arrange the steeple fix and not tell anyone where it came from. He went to the church and told them it was arranged for it to be done. The church was saving money to get it fixed so Frank said fix it. He did so and didn’t tell them where the money came from. The pastor was able to figure it out because he knew the man was Franks money manager. A letter of thanks was sent to Franks home. Frank was upset but the money manager assured him he didn’t tell them where it came from. There was a nice invitation was sent to Frank to attend the church anytime. Frank called the pastor and told him thanks for the nice invite. He told them he would attend sometime in the near future. After the steeple was up and fixed Frank brought Barbara to the church one Sunday as services were letting out. Frank was gracious and signed autographs and spoke to people for a few minutes. He laughed when he was told me Sinatra we knew it had to be you. No one else in the Palm Springs area would even care. He laughed told them well God told me that the church needed it. I think that’s typical of Frank Sinatra not to try to make a show of it.

I saw this and thought the video maker was full of sh*t when he said Sinatra's gravesite was changed, but apparently he is right. When I went to pay homage, it said "The Best is Yet to Come" at the gravesite but if you look at Find a Grave it was changed, apparently by Nancy Jr. after Barbara Sinatra died. But he was in terrible shape the last two years of his life; Barbara had nothing to do with it, although she insisted on selling their house in Beverly Hills and that probably didn't help. It was a miracle he lived to 82.

Very nice video and quite informative..I am a long-time resident of Palm Springs,Calif. Before Sinatra passed away there were persistent rumors that Barbara was mistreating Frank..A couple of which were that Frank was suffering from Dementia before his passing...So his living any longer,if that were actually true,is rather doubtful..Another persistent tale was the story that also, toward Franks passing,he and Barbara attended a dinner party with Frank' of having a chain wrapped around his wrist, that was was also attached to Barbara with her parading Frank around in front of others, like a pet on a leash...Mr.Sinatra loved Palm Springs, and Palm Springs loved him right back..Sinatra was always extremely generous to local charities, and both of local medical hospitals..I was struck at the time that I had heard that dinner party story repeated of Barbara making Frank endure dinner parties while suffering from Dementia was a the act of a very troubled woman..Sinatra deserved a much better passing..

I feel awful for Frank and his children. He was a guy who gave to charity and made sure Sammy Davis was treated right. He was against heads of clubs or anyone treating blacks as any thing but the same as them. He loved dogs and was devastated when John F. Kennedy was killed. He had been friends with him. I have heard the story of this woman Nancy keeping his children from seeing him. And when he was dying she would not tell them or let them near him! Sure, if he stayed with the first wife he may have been treated well. But Hollywood and it's temptations cause many to stray. The lifestyle Frank had would surely lead him down that road. I do feel that any woman he was married to would never have treated this man so poorly as this Barbara. She is horrible. Mia Farrow loved Frank very much. He loved her also. But he wanted her to be with him and not do movies at one time. So it ended. Frank is has been said loved Mia and said "She was the nicest person I ever knew". She'd have been wonderful for him. I understand how upsetting this must be for his daughter to not get to see her dad and especially as he was dying. They were very close. I hope Barbara got what she deserved for how she treated Frank. What a monster she was. I love that the grave was changed.

Nancy should understand that the annulment enable her father to receive the sacraments. Nancy should of been more concerned with her father than herself or for that matter Barbara. I do feel bad that has a young woman her father broke the family up by his infidelity, HE was thinking only of himself certainly not the well being of his family.

Any woman who asks her husband to annual a marriage from a woman who bore him 3 children is cruel and mean spirited. If that marriage had been or was annual that would mean those 3 children were born out of wedlock and would have been considered bastards which was not the case. Had Frank not been famous the number 4th wife would never have given him a second look for sure.

A man who goes along with some "dame's" request to have the marriage to his first wife and mother of his children annulled is cruel, careless, thoughtless, and mean spirited. Why are we blaming this "broad?" It was Sinatra who had to pursue the LONG grueling process of having a marriage annulled in the Catholic Church. Did she have a gun to his head? Why didn't he grow a pair and simply inform her--it ain't gonna happen, Dollface. For someone who was called the "Chairman of the Board," he sure failed miserbly at doing it "My Way."

Set her sights on their neighbor, Frank Sinatra. “This time , I’m marrying for money” . Marriage to FS was very rocky. Ready for divorce. Frank had a huge intestinal surgery. After that he was on many prescriptions. His health kept deteriorating, she was giving him antidepressants. He died at 82. Zeppo Marx adopted her son. Then she was Sinatra to adopt her son, he was 25. He would have been. Robert Oliver, Marx , Sinatra. I call it gold digger.

I agree with Nancy Sinatra, Jr. I read that Barbara was out playing cards the day he died and knew he needed help, but unnecessarily delayed responding. Had one of the children known that he was in bad shape that day, they would have been on it immediately, and yes, I believe Frank would have been with us longer. Barbara was a gold-digger, who even stooped so low as to pressure Frank to adopt her ADULT son, no doubt for more financial gain upon his death (Frank was too smart to fall for the ploy and declined). She also sold his beloved Palm Springs home while his health was failing and he did not want to leave, so the new owners let him stay a little longer. That made me so sad. Thank goodness he had his loving children and the “Sleep Warm” epitaph is so beautiful. (My mom used to say that to me when I was little before bed every night so I have an affinity for it). However, someone on a Sinatra site stated that his gravestone was changed and now reads “The Best is yet to Come.” Does anyone know how it reads today?

@@FactsVerse Thank you for the opportunity to respond. Yes, I would love to see more content about the famous music/film artists circa the golden years of “old Hollywood.” Interviews, current or archived of the involved actors, writers, directors, make-up artists and designers (they know what went on behind the scenes) would add dimension to the pieces. Also, more content on current and recent prominent films and music would be attractive as well. You might mix both or either genres with related true crime stories (think “Rust,” and the current Alec Baldwin issue; The director Tony Scott’s alleged suicide, which I have yet to see documentary on, etc. these are examples of coupling true crime and film) and are just a few ideas. I have more if you want them, but I believe this is sufficient for now. Thank you for your always excellent content.

The only things I can see Barbara got wrong is asking Frank to do that annulment when he had kids with her. No religion should dictate that . Otherwise, I’m doubting Barbara caused Frank an early death. 86 isn’t exactly an early death and dementia. Nancy was right to be upset about the annulment. I think she’s being a drama Queen over a doctor calling her upon his death and not Barbara. Someone notified her which should have been enough. I didn’t know any of this about his life just about his life as an entertainer.
