I knew Fletcher’s trainer. You can see him in this video. Big guy with gray hair and black tee shirt. Marty Feldman. He used to come in to a delicatessen where I worked in the Philly area to buy beer and smokes. And he would buy Fletcher a tuna hoagie after his workout. Tough, exciting fighter.

I deal with a lot of kids like this in coaching. Low impulse control and high time preference so they either blindly rob and steal or are just as happy to stab you and take your shoes. Just all around bad kids. I love them because we have a bond but dont lie to myself about what utter disasters they are. Same homelife as Frank, single mother without a clue and a dozen other siblings in the system. This is why boxing is such a great tool to use with them. Discipline and responsibility. Learning basic strategy and how to control your base instincts. Great vid as usual.

@RAH TATA the projection is beyond obvious, i am guessing from the abysmal grammar and high time preference lack of responsibility who and what you are, son. Did I coach you for the GGs and you decided to rob the Korean grocer for $2. Now you blame me for your lost opportunity from Rikers? How typical. No self reflection or grasp on responsibility

@@bflo1000 it is something I had to work on, but when you start realizing trying to understand certain lifestyles and people is more impossible than relating to a Martian, it makes it a bit easier. Plus i genuinely like kids and love boxing. For all the misery there is a lot of fun and joy seeing a kid who was doomed for a life of either being a deadbeat or prisoner getting his s hit together. The first group of kids I coached and mentored when I was in college are now adults. Not always the brightest or best. None turned pro but proud to say I have mailmen, military and even an assistant coach from my boys

The idea of a person having to be 18 to be married is fairly recent in history. My grandfather was 17, my grandmother was 16 when they were married. My parents were married weeks after graduating high school. Part of the problem today with our youth is that we are still calling men in their 20's, kids

@@jeff3putt married is one thing, but having 8 kids you can’t support, living off the government and no father in the picture is what I’m referring to. that's a little unfair. Frank was not a great fighter and he wasn't going to beat Hagler. But do a deep dive on his record. They used him up. There was a stretch there where he was in with some REALLY tough guys. I appreciate that but it didn't help him any. Today he would have beaten one contender and waited on his payday. It didn't work like that back then. There was ONE Champion, a REAL Champion, and you had to earn your turn to get knocked out!

It’s amazing… someone that never Boxed would say something like their all sitting in wheel chairs or they are now vegetables. It’s disrespectful snd it shows you know nothing about Boxing and nothing about what it takes to come from nothing, and achieve true greatness. Rich is bringing back fighters some have never seen. These men are Legends, men of Renown. If you don’t have anything positive to say, say nothing at all.

But after seeing this, I must say one modern fighter who reminds me of Fletcher is James Kirkland - who incidentally, was himself schooled by a woman also. EDIT: Irony is truly funny sometimes. Dude goes to jail for beating up and shooting a woman - then gets paid to get in the ring and beat up a GUY named TONY BRAXTON. 🤣🤣
