My first baseball game was Frank Thomas's first game against the White Sox. I was a little too young to understand why everyone cheered an opposing batter after hitting two homeruns but later learned I was watching a legend just doing his thing. Thank you Nugenix

As a Sox fan, that 2005 team's dominance is so strange. The 2004 team included Frank Thomas, Carlos Lee, & Magglio Ordonez: three guys who'd all receive MVP votes in the next two years. The '05 team had none of them and they still went 11-1 in the playoffs. Still truly wild.

This was the era where a lot of players came to oakland to end their careers. Frank thomas joining in '06 and returning in his '08 retirement season, Mike Piazza joining in '07, nomar Garciaparra joining in '09, playoffs legend hideki matsui joining in '11 before playing his final year in Tampa in '12, Ben sheets joining in '10 after having a pretty solid career in Milwaukee before playing his final year in 2012 for atlanta. (Some of these players had better careers than others, but just an interesting era for the team)

Being a White Sox fan made it tough to have a favorite other than The Big Hurt. Modeled my admittedly horribly underpowered swing on his. Griffey and Thomas were just so fun to watch, hurt to see Frank move on, especially the way it went down

It’s an A’s video, so of course it has to end with them losing in the playoffs.

I was at that Game 3 win vs. Twins. It was Marco Scutaro that day who was the hitting star, clearing the bases mid-game to give A's a commanding lead. The whole stadium was chanting in unison "SCU-TAR-O! SCU-TAR-O!" Marco was a humble guy from Latin America, and I remember him, in an interview years later, recalling how profoundly it moved him, to hear 45,000 fans all shouting his name at once! Also, late in the season, I met Frank Thomas in the parking lot. I told him to re-sign with the A's and retire as an Athletic. He smiled, said, "we'll see..." Of course he went to Toronto, but he was a gentleman and great with the fans. Fine memories indeed.

I saw Frank Thomas *annihilate* a 2-0 slider in the old Metrodome back in '96. I've never seen a RH hitter drive a ball that far in my life. It damn near hit the back wall in left field.

I feel like Big Mac hit one in the metrodome that was like mid way up the bleachers just left of straight away center. I’ve never forgotten it cause I’ve never seen anyone reach that territory. I’ll see if I can find the one you’re referring to

So I think that home run day that turned the season around is May 10th, given the context clues from the video. If you just take his numbers after that day, Thomas played 109 regular games from that day onward, with a triple slash of .296/.410/.592 and 33 home runs. The A’s went 64-45 in those games.

Frank Thomas is arguably the most underrated right handed hitter of all-time. And its sad to think if he didn't have the last 2-3 years of his career he would probably be like Dick Allen. Another incredible underrated hitter who isn't in the hall(yet).
