If I'm not off too much, the tree at 25:00 is a willow. As the birches do, the willows will grow their first few years of growth with very big leaves. That way they gain more strenght to the roots in the future. Not sure tho, but I've seen it a lot in nature.

They didn't make it, I had them in the plant room and they never got going and eventually shriveled up. I think my plant room was too cool and not enough light maybe? The tiny pencil cactus are doing really well, they too had a rough start, buy now they are growing and are nice and green. It's too bad, the pictures of them in flower are amazing.

You grow so many different types of ficus, I wonder why you like the natal fig so much. Is it better than microcarpa for bonsai?
@TheBonsaiZone3 жыл бұрын
I think it is the easiest tree for growing aerial roots and the the leaves can be reduced really well. It has a nice texture on the trunk and is a good grower under many different conditions. The leaves don't look like a typical Ficus leaf, so they are a little more special.

What is the reasoning behind NOT watering the cuttings? It seems counter intuitive.
@hsvfanjan173 жыл бұрын
Portulacaria Afra (and most other succulents I think) don't like water immediately. You also let a cutting dry out about a week before putting it into soil. Just very different from trees, I think it's because their water storaging is very different
