Harmonically the song seems to be falling apart at any time but never does, maintaining a tension that sets the song apart from what you expect from a regular heavy rock song. It's really wild!

The cover art for the album (from which it gets its name) shows the classic Droodle, by Roger Price. The shapes in the cover art also suggest the letters "ZA" but looks like a ship arriving to late to save a drowning witch

There vocals sort of lead into Frank's own on the song "Drowning Witch". This album has Steve Vai "Impossible guitar parts", and "Valley Girl" with 14 year old Moon on vocals.

I bought this album when it was brand new, hot out of the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen, so nothing was being played on the radio yet. I listened to it straight through, as you're supposed to listen to Frank, and I thought this was the standout track on the album with that guitar jam going on. Valley Girl was the surprise hit on the album, taking even Frank by surprise. In retrospect, Drowning Witch is the best song on the album.

This was a rare one-off. Was never performed live. Also, a rare studio guitar solo, and a killer one, at that! I love the lyrics, and can’t for my life figure out how they became this way.
@mrgreengenes043 ай бұрын
Although the main riff was performed live as far back as 1969 with the original Mothers. The 1988 band did learn the song during rehearsal, it was abandoned before the tour began.

That's Roy Estrada singing lead vocals, who was the bass player / vocalist in The Mothers Of Invention. He toured with Frank in 1976 and appears in the film "Baby Snakes." Estrada also sings the multi-tracked high vocals on this albums opening song "No Not Now" (which you really should listen to!) and appears on the next album, "The Man From Utopia." There's a very brief clip of Frank with Roy on the short film "Two On The Town" where they are in the studio adding vocals to "The Radio Is Broken" which you reacted to a year ago.

Neither Adrian or Vai, that's Frank!. Vai is on the album though. I love the driving rhythm, Chad on Drums and Arthur/Patrick on bass. I love the vocals. Frank didn’t dislike his fans, but he was SUCH a ball-buster when he did stuff like that. the solo interplay with the heavy distortion on his Les Paul, the bass player gettin’ all kindsa musical, dancing around Frank’s tonality, and Chad being Chad, playing fills and polyrhythms like the freakin’ on-the-spectrum beautiful human he is… that’s some seriously cool heavy shit right there - fucking ouch! 😊 thx guys seanM

You did "The Torture Never Stops" by Zappa with Captain Beefheart. Zappa did a tour with live recordings "The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life" and it has "The Torture Never Stops" part 1 & 2 with brief vocal opening and a lot of brilliant guitar after that. Incredible and brilliant music - I'm not a big fan of Frank's operatic rock-operette stand-up comedy music. Much of the social commentary is justified, but musically, meh. This live guitar thing however, wow.

it's his swan song for me I say no to Joes Garage it tortured me as a closeted 20 year old gay guy! He got very bigoted and homophobic in his last decade shame
@seanc.murphy35734 ай бұрын
I hear that. but - I would point you to interviews thru the years where he was very respectful and decent about “homosexuality”, homosexual individuals. I say he was decidedly NOT “homophobic”. sophomoric?, very. scared of or hateful toward people who are gay… no way. Joe’s Garage ‘gay’ references are largely gesturing at things that go on, on the business side of the record business - shitty practices he’d encountered and/or heard about enough times to conclude it was ‘a thing’. anyway - you have a right… but seriously - he was 40 sounding like a 14 y/o stupid boy at times, absolutely - but not homophobic or at all hateful. he was a dick at times, obviously - and obnoxious at times. but IMO not, not a shit person. seanM
