Great video guys, helped me out a lot. Was looking at one in a shop here in Kuwait last night, came back to the Hotel to do some research and really glad I didn't buy it on the spot. Subscribed

This is excellent and I was laughing out loud - especially at the reference to slapping a bit of Dulux on the hands!!! :D So yeah I've got a couple of Pogues. One is an Aussie original and the other one is refurbished but with authentic looking parts. Hey yeah so your chrono minute counter hand is way out, and the Chrono seconds hand isn't right and as discussed the time hands were probably painted by Dulux, but as you correctly say- the engine is probably original and the case isn't bad. Remembering that the originals are like 50 + years old and that you can't get original parts I see nothing whatsoever wrong with refurbishing this piece with quality after market parts - especially the hands! You can get decent authentic looking hands now and I think you can even get authentic looking dials now. So why not take that route? At the heart of it you've still got an original 6139 engine and case. After all, when a vintage car is refurbished half a century later- do they use original parts when the car manufacturer has shut up shop decades ago? I think not! They use after market quality parts - and why not? That way the car and the watch gets a new lease of life to be hopefully enjoyed for many years to come. So long as people are honest on ebay that the watch is refurbished (many of them ARE quite straight up about this and good for them?) and not trying to pass off a refurbished watch as an original then I cant see what the problem is. Excellent discussion -thoroughly enjoyed it!

Great video guys! A lot of fake 6139’s out there, even a “fake” looks legitimate nowadays. You should have a look at the movement though, a lot of the franken Pogues have swapped Chinese movements. You live and you learn. All the best boys! Cheers, Carlos

Thanks Carlos, we did check it and thankfully all was legit movement wise. It’s been sold on now, advertised it on eBay accurately explaining what was wrong and it sold more than we bought it for, very strange!

When it it comes to collectable vintage watches go bricks and mortar, inspect in person and if the deal is too good to be true it usually is! Coming from many years of collecting. Good luck!

clockbait it’s all part of the fun guys just don’t gamble big dollars, it would have left a bad taste in your mouth if it were a Frankenstein vintage Rolex (plenty of incorrect one’s out there)

For the price of a mint "true Pogue" you might as well just buy a Speedmaster. My Franken Pogue is a yellow dial 6139 with Pepsi bezel in a 6139-6020 pulsations case. Yes it is a parts bin watch, and in fairness so was the original. This isn't like a fake Ferrari its like a parts bin Datsun 240z. An all orignal one is cooler, sure, for 10x more money. Get a Speedmaster Racing with coaxial movement that will run longer than any 50 year old Seiko. Just be happy with what you have and learn your watch.

You are so right - sometimes its best not to care too much, caring too much and looking too hard can be a mistake. Now you know, whats your plan with the frankenpogue? For me the key to playing vintage is to chase watches no one else gives a shit over.

Not So Obvious Watches glad you agree mate. It’s tricky, but we’ve decided to sell. It’ll be more fun now trying to find a bargain ‘good one’, now we’ve learnt our lesson and know what to look for!

@@clockbait well good luck with the search. personally I've decided to be the worlds only collector of vintage alpina's - since Im the only one collecting: a) no one can be arsed making fakes and b) there's no one to tell me I got a dodgy one. win, win.

Not So Obvious Watches awesome! Pretty much the polar opposite to the die hard 6139 fans then, ha!
