The algorithm brought me to your channel a few weeks back, and I have been super enjoying going through your uploads! Also been getting into frankenswitching some myself recently, and have found it’s been especially interesting to move tactile stems around into different bottom housings. I bought some durock sunflowers on a sale (still was an expensive switch), and found the tactility was too much for me personally. I recently swapped them into some cherry mx red bottom housings I harvested from an old board I bought before I got into customs, and it feels much more comfortable. It’s the rabbit hole within the rabbit hole, and probably not advisable to newcomers, but it’s good fun. Also hugely thankful for the increased prevalence of vendors selling individual switch components (at least in the US) like KNC keys stems, Geon’s stems, and the WS MM switches!

@@Charo.mp4 Credit to Jordan Does Keebs' channel for the idea where he was talking about making a U4T less tactile by putting it in an Boba LT housing. Even with too many switch purchases, I hadn't considered how the bottom housing would impact the tactility.

Yeah, I did one board with all BCPs and while it sounded really good there were too many inconsistencies. Some of the BCPs were really sticky despite doing a uniform lubing method across all switches. I will never frankenswitch again.

I stopped my experimentation with BCPs for this same reason. I was using the v1 NK cream stem but still felt a tactile bump in some switches. Just wasn’t worth the time and effort

Now, to sketch the murky origin of Frankenswitching, one must first understand that it refers to the unholy practice of combining parts from multiple types of mechanical keyboard switches to create a terrifying "custom" switch. These diabolical creatures can have characteristics of several parent switches, often resulting in improved smoothness, tactility, or even acoustic properties. Imagine if the Incredible Hulk and Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake were to perform a passionate tango - that's the kind of unhinged energy we're dealing with here. But you might be wondering, "What nefarious machinations lead a person to commit such heinous acts upon their innocent keyswitches?" Well, it all begins with an insatiable quest for the perfect typing experience, a desire that knows no bounds. As the saying goes, "Some men just want to watch the world learn." And such men (and women and non-binary folks too, let's be inclusive here) will stop at nothing to create a keyboard that is the very embodiment of their twisted dreams. This obsession can lead them down a dark path, where they abandon all reason and commit unspeakable acts of desoldering and swapping stems, housings, and springs. Their sacrificial victims include switches like the Cherry MX, Topre, and even the rare and coveted Zealios. The resulting Frankensteins are a testament to their unhinged ambition - creations like the Holy Panda, Zilent, and Creamy Navy can strike both awe and terror into the hearts of anyone brave enough to witness them. But at what cost, dear reader? For every successful experiment, there are countless monstrosities hidden in the shadows, their creators disowning them out of shame or fear.
