Just sold my Girud 3 way trimmer today :) too much finger fatigue. I did convert old Lee hand primer to hold cases by the rim, it's very handy but nothing beats Dillon RT1500 I bought for $200 used + $50 die. Size and trim at same time on my Hornady LNL while cases are being fed from case feeder and if the case doesn't need trimming it still needs to be sized so no need to sort it. Best system ever, just wish it could chamfer inside too. After trimming throw them in wet tumbler and it get rids of sharp edge so no need to deburr or chamfer! I do use NOE expanding plug while loading for inside neck only halfway to prevent shavings on copper bullets, it works but I am looking in to carbide expander for less friction.

My favorite thing about Frankford Products is that everything comes with its own holding case so you aren't having to organize and chase down parts for each different application. They are all right there when you need them.

Great timing. I just finished using this to trim a box of 223 range brass. I lock the drill in a vise with a wood clamp on the trigger so I can grab brass from the bucket with one hand, and feed the trimmer with the other. Makes quick work of the otherwise boring task. I do like this trimmer better than the WTF as it's adjustable and not caliber specific. Take your time making a jig piece of brass for each caliber and it makes quick work of adjustments.

Thanks for the suggestion about using pilots. I had been having trouble with mine cutting the case mouths uneven, even when rotating the case during the process. I replaced the cutter head with the RCBS cutter and use the RCBS pilots and it’s working great now, much more uniform and consistent trimming

Johnny thanks for the tip about adding the mandrel to the cutter. I swapped out the setup from my Hornady and it is longer than the Frankford Arsenal cutter, but I think it will work just fine. I think it will allow for very square trimming. One thing I do when (hand held tool) deburring the inside of the case is to rotate the case BACKWARDS. This allows just the burr to be removed and prevents making the mouth have a too fine knife edge.

All trimmers have their plusses and minuses. It's good to have options. I use Lee trimmers a lot of the time because you pretty much get a squared case neck, and they are all coming out the correct length. I have RCBS and LYMAN trimmers and they both give me uneven case neck cuts when trimming. I am thinking about one of these trimmers that go off of the shoulder because I am sure they would be quicker than the Lee because of having to lock the case in a holder takes time and it looks like it is easier to have a squared cut on the trim with these. I don't do volumes of cases, but when I do cut them, I want them squared not uneven when trimmed. Nice video. BTW all you viewers fire formed cases can be trimmed and not worry about sizing so long as they are all the same for the same rifle. I like fire formed cases for my bolt guns that I only have one rifle for in that caliber. A very good review as always Johnny.

Just something to add when using this trimmer or most others that are similar is to rotate or spin the case back and forth inside the drill you'll notice a little extra cutting on some cases for a little more uniformity. When measuring afterwards you might get a few thousand variants because of some of the burs on the end of the case before it's chamferred so you do not always get an accurate reading if you haven't chamferred the mouth first. Excellent review. I own but no longer use the FA Case Trim & Prep Center for trimming. Even though the new one allows the case to stick out a little farther, I'm pretty sure that trimming a lot of 300 BLK cases will give you sore fingers in fairly quick order. Also, even though it's obvious, it can only be used to trim bottleneck cases so something like 30 Carbine and other straight walled cases can't be trimmed with it. Lastly, I always had trouble getting consistent trim lengths because the shoulder bushings are made of relatively soft plastic and unless I was able to always apply the same amount of pressure, they would "give" enough to give me trim lengths that varied by a few thousandths. Thanks for again reviewing equipment that's affordable to most of us rather than twelve hundred dollar single stage presses and multi thousand dollar progressives.

I've been using this trimmer for a while to trim up 300 blackout after forming. Talk about sore fingers! Probably not the best for bulk batches. I am a bit disappointed to not hear you mention that Winchester 296 was the same as H110 this episode, as I have gotten so used to hearing that. Glad you were finally able to use the word "collet" in an appropriate way. Love the content, keep it up! xD

Look at the Little Crow Gun Works (Worlds Finest Trimer) I have mine mounted on a old fan motor. And can trim 7 rounds (300blk) per min with out killing myself. There's another cutter on the market that now cuts to length and de burrs at the same time. This tool won't last 2000 rounds before the plastic collet is shot.

Strikes me as a handy and affordable way to trim brass, especially if you load multiple calibers! I came close to buying Lyman's Xpress Trimmer for last black friday, for $115 and the only thing that stopped me was they were out of stock for the extra bushings I needed for my other calibers. I ultimately ended up buying the LE Wilson set-up, and now whenever I trim my brass I need a cigarette afterwards.

Great video. I got the RCBS trimmer. Works great too! On a different note. After you have prepped your cases and they are virtually identical in all aspects. Now you are at the point where you are now seating the bullet, say for a .308, and you've got the depth you want. You seat the bullet, set it aside and finish up the rest. You set them to, let's say 2.230. You come back the next day and re-measure them and now they're at 2.227!!! You have a quality caliper. Your measuring technique is top notch. Your comparator set is new. Nothing's changed but time. How/why would this happen? It's happened to me many times, why?

As @JRB said, this only trims as consistently as your cases are sized. If your shoulder bump is inconsistent, then the lengths will also be inconsistent (when you add the error it could be quite a bit).

That is not true. If you wish to size fire formed cases out of the same chamber it will work fine. It also will work with a new lot of brass if you are processing it all before using. It does have to be uniform one way or another though but not necessarily sized.

I use a Lee case holder that fits in my drill and a universal cutter. All the calibers are specific for about 7-8 buck with a chamfer and deburr tool. I can do about 6 a minute. No adjustments needed, you can't cut them too short. You can true up the flash holes while you are are trimming cases, flash holes are a once in the life of the case but you are there already. This is very handy in making 300 blk brass.

Great Video. I have this trimmer, bought much cheaper as well. I'm a gadget fan, so It looked cool, and agree, it's meh with 300Blackout. I originally bought the Little Crow Gun works WFT trimmer for the 223, then bought the WFT2, where you order additional bushings for each different caliber... All work well, but like the ease of adjustment in the Frankford unit, as opposed to hex key adjustments on the LCGW WFT/2. Also, the Frankford Platinum case prep center unit you note on Amazon is 220v... Almost bought that for the all in one ability to trim/champher on the same machine...

I shoot 308 600 yard and 300 win mag 1000. It boils down to this. 50% ammunition 40% equipment 10% shooter. I can take a novice shooter and in 20 rounds they will be in the 10 ring at a 1000 yards (calm day) Takes them awhile to get use to the recoil 300 win mag. My equipment and ammunition.

if you have the Hornady O.A.L Gauge, you can use the Hornady case that you buy for your caliber that screws on the Hornady Gauge O.A.L. to as a guide to set up any trimer, i say just about anyways i use them on my little crow gunworks , one time set everytime , no messing around and measuring

Only problem is the FA prep center on amazon is 240 volt had it in my amazon cart mid december for 3 days realized it and cancelled order. Turned around on the 18th and ordered the 110v from grafs. Still waiting for it to ship. Lol its been 8 business days but they say it takes 10-14 business days to ship so hopefully next week it will ship

As much as you shoot 223. You really need to look into the Giraud trimmers. Trim, chamfer, and de burr all in on step. Set up on a cheap harbor freight bench grinder.. you can knock out a ton in no time. Currently saving up for 308, 300 blackout, and 300 win mag.

I have a 300 Blackout load you may be interested in. There is no real data for it from Vihtavuori and I can't find any online, but I have been experimenting with no pressure signs so far. -Vihtavuori N530 -Lake City brass -125 grain FMJ bullets -CCI 450 primers. -Loads at 17, 17.5, 18, 18.5, 19 grains I dont have a chronograph so I have no idea on the fps.

If you trim based on total case length you are ADDING inconsistency, and possibly stacking errors. Trimming is done to make sure the case is not too long, BUT also to make the NECKS the same length so the neck tension is the same. It doesn't matter that the cases are all the same length, what is more important is that the NECKS are the same length.

The thing is that the "bushings" are made out of aluminum and with that many RPMs those bushings will wear out real quick. Still not a fan of the case trimmers that index off of the shoulder, shoulder variance happens, it's hard to have an exact shoulder bump......I use the forester case trimmers any more, so much more accurate and quiet compared to the FA case prep platinum machine

I've found trim length inconsistent so far. Hoping refining my technique will improve this issue. I wouldn't start on your best brass with this trimmer. Once I get this figured out I think this trimmer will be great.

Is removing the primer crimp easier on the FA prep center than a Dillon super swager? Looks like more finger pain to me but I never tried anything else.

The prep center brand doesn't matter, he's actually using RCBS crimp remover that works by rounding the corner and I can vouch it works great, I have one but your fingers get tired so if you do small amount go for it. The swagger is definitely easier but it pushes the brass out around the primer pocket, no big deal for plinking ammo but for accuracy I prefer cut out.
