Your pickin not only gets the notes, but the whole feel, drive, syncopation. The whole ball of wax. Sounds more like John than all the folks playing it in open G. great version.

I've come back to your videos again and again for the last ten years, which is considerable since 10 years ago I was 18. Its hard to imagine someone of your deep feeling is doing 'well' in the common sense, but I hope you are still sharing the waters of sorrow and love of life from which these songs emerge for many years to come. Your gifts are needed and the have provided me with sustenance, delight, and a little more courage than I would otherwise be able to have. Many good blessings to you.

Not to be too serious, but seriously it's been at least 10 years since I stumbled across your pickin' and I still come back frequently.

I'm with this guy. Been coming back to these videos and this one especially since I first discovered Mississippi John Hurt when I was about 23, almost 10 years ago! And to be honest, with all due respect I prefer this version over Mississippi's!

Great cover from a great artist. I’m from Teoc Mississippi (where he was born) and the music community there swears by him. Glad to see good people still continuing his music. Beautiful cover from a song written nearly 100 years ago.

This one caused the same dopey grinning euphoria that all your tunes do, but had an extra bonus--that gap, which is one of the best pauses ever. Even your silence sounds good! I say again, you are truly gifted, and I have set aside money for your CD.

Something about how you do this one works better for me than even the MJH original. You made it your own. Love it. And he camera angle is the next best thing to a TAB. One more song to learn in a long list of goals...

I came across your clips for the first time today while researching the great Skip James and now have listened to a bunch of your music. Wow. You're a terrific player, clearly with a real understanding of those great old players, excellent left and right hands, and even more importantly, great FEELING for this no-longer-quite-so-lost body of music. It's great to hear someone other than my crotchety old buddies and me showing love for it. Keep on truckin.

This was the first GOOD blues video I saw on youtube. I mean, I thought and think still that this is profound, sexy, authentically 2000s and 1930s too. It's totally cool, atmospheric, and beautiful. So where in fuck are you? IPBN is needed by everyone. It's a frozen universe without you and your music! Moh

I had the pleasure & honor of sitting a few feet from Mississippi John Hurt during his Oberlin concert April 15, 1965. The entire concert appeared on Vanguard Records as "Best of MJH" as though an anthology. In small print: Live at Oberlin College. So great, so beautiful. This song and Louis Collins are the most cinematic stories. MJH music is contrapuntal.

I agree, Mr Jim, Christine's guitar sounds fabulous, and to me, its similar in tone to the guitar used by Mississippi John on the original.Great version. Like me, I suspect that Christine's fans have likely given up on her posting more videos, its been such a long time. Doesn't stop me hoping I'm wrong! Come on Christine, prove me wrong! I love your music.Always inspiring. Always top notch.

Great recording, Christine, - top playing and top singing - record wherever you like, wear whatever you like--chew whatever you like while doing it -- it will still sound great - that's the important bit, with all due respect to other contributors! Its the Blues- whoever heard of such "rules" in Blues? Particularly in reference to a talent such as yourself. Thanks for posting.

I have to stop watching videos like this. A few years ago I started taking guitar lessons. I progressed to the point where my teacher gave me the tablature for about 10 measures of an Open G version of this song. I practiced and practiced until finally I felt like it sounded pretty good. I was kind of proud of myself. I was just playing it tonight when I realized, you know, I've never even heard the original of this song. So I googled and found this. I suck.

Nice job! I have the 000-16 SGT too and love it for stuff like this. Parlor guitars and fingerpicking blues go together like Frankie & Jonny. Keep doing what you do and forget the haters - not one in a hundred of them have a video showing they could do better. Most of them live in their parent's basements and post cynical comments to make themselves feel better, and are trying in vain to make up for all the hugs and words of encouragement they missed out on as children.
