@nothing Do you mean the Baddiel thing? Frankie did say that the episode was chopped to pieces. If you read his autobiography he has never had anything to do with his final product. For a BBC example see "my pussy is so old its haunted".

This is a really good episode. When Doug Stanhope goes on about left and right being the same he hits the nail right on the head. To paraphrase from the film Dr. No "left, Right, just directions and each just as stupid as the other"
@michaelccozens3 жыл бұрын
As nice as the excuse to do nothing and feel superior would be, the only problem with it is that it's objectively and dangerously untrue. If we're talking the common interests of the oligarch-protecting political classes, absolutely, but at least the left has a faction that explicitly rejects that. The right doesn't. Look at 45; claimed he'd be above corporate cash and self-fund, took more money than anyone ever, by a long shot.

Many reasons: Frankie's monologues were the best of the series, I'm shocked the Miliband fucking a kid joke got on TV and "Children thrown off sex yachts" will be looked on the same way we look at knowing Jimmy Savile jokes. The guests were better and actually ended their political points with a punchline, remembering they were being employed as comedians not for their political insight. Even the politics of it were more to my taste, pleasantly surprised to have a clip of Noam Chomsky. You wouldn't get that on the show where Hugh Dennis does a funny voice to clips of Prince Charles.

Stanhope is good but he's from the US where left and right are exactly the same thing, in Europe left is left and right is right, ww2 is a testament to this fact. USA have never ever had a war on their own soil between left and right politics, the civil war was about money and slavery.

Trump update, he just said Canada was a threat to national security because of the burning down of the White House in the War of 1812 (for reference that was actually Great Britain, 54 years before Canada even existed)
@manninco6 жыл бұрын
Saoirse del Tufo pretty sure we were called Canada back then, we just weren't recognized as a nation by Europe yet (just a lowly colony), but yeah it was a British colony at the time... we just love to say we burned it down, since the USA likes to say they won in 1812 (after attacking 2 British ships days after the war had officially ended). sorry if that was a waste of time
@DoctorFurioso6 жыл бұрын
Canada was a lose collection of British colonies settled by Orangemen. The landmass was called "the Canadas", and there was certainly no "we" or "yet". The only Canadian nationalists were Quebecois, and the British shot and hanged them. Indigenous people were the only ones with any sort of cultural identity tied to the soil, so the British shot and hanged them too.

The American guy was right, when you apply his rant to American politics, as that has no real left wing and never really has. British Politics had left wing collectivism cemented in in the 40's and 50's, and then right wing individualism cemented in the 80's and 90's. What this means is that while we are in the midst of a heavy swing to the right which dragged Labour with it, we aren't like America, which has no sense for a political left wing.
