It is a little bit gratifying to hear two of my favorite British comedians professing admiration for some of my favorite American comedians. Intelligent, dark, pervy, snark are the common denominators for me. Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr are two brilliantly funny men. I do admit that I have no "gag-reflex" for comedy. No joke has ever offended as much as inoffensive humor does.
@CheerfullyCynical829

You have GOT to listen to the American comedian Anthony Jeselnik. One thing to note: he is not topical or political. No "sharp" commentary on government or society. 😴😴😴........Just extremely droll, clever and witty jokes about race, religion, drug overdoses, rape, murder, arson, armed robbery, AIDS, 9/11, mass shootings, dead babies, poor people, pedophilia, and necrophilia. With a slow, measured delivery. He's one of my all-time favorite comedians.

@DrParanoidAndroid
@DrParanoidAndroid 2 жыл бұрын
@@aslanilyayasa8146 Explaining a funny moment always removes the funny, but I don't believe it was meant as a joke but it was funny. It's funny on a few levels, one because it's so random, just who says that, just very unexpected. Two it could be construed as a subtle dig at Jimmy and Frankie that the most interesting question / statement the audience member could say was about how good the camera man was at his job. Thirdly it's their reaction to it, they were dumbstruck. Fourth and most importantly, I think the audience member meant it genuinely and non maliciously which makes it both sweet and highlights a potential flaw in the audience members understanding of what would be an acceptable and respectable comment to make in that given situation. Jimmy and Frankie were only on stage for a short set, with a few questions, his comment was unnecessary as it's a given that the camera man (who was doing an adequate job tbh) should be doing a good job, it's his job (probably should highlight the hard work of these invisible hands more tbh) and taking time away from any real or probing questions from other audience members. And finally it's all of the above which makes it funny together, combining an insult, social awkwardness, randomness and deviating from the norm, all in one quick phrase. It's all in how you process a joke is why it's funny imo, all in the space of a couple of seconds one can think: Immediately: *confused* "What, huh, so random, so out of context" next: "why is he talking about the camera man?" next: "given this circumstance that's a socially random thing to do and say" next: "did he mean that as an insult" next: *laugh at jimmy and frankies reaction* "they agree, it was weird, and the audience thought it was weird/ funny too" next: "was that an insult though? or was he being nice?" next: "confusion" next: this opens up a whole new kettle of fish of what could occur next.

tonedog77 From her main act you don't pick up on it at first. I recommend watching the serial she created from her home in the midwest. In it she impersonated her family and friends and gave glimpses of how depressed she was. It starts to come off like a Greek tragedy where everything that can go wrong does and all b/c of her flawed personality. It's positively brilliant.

Political correctness and comedy have always been at odds. Frankie is definitely at odds with it, and that's one of the reasons he's my number one comic - alongside Bill Hicks - and why the comedians that bow down to P.C. are way down on the list. Frankie makes me cry laughing and cringe all in one stand up show. He's one of the masters of comedy.

+Dan Cog You mean corporate correctness. The reason why things have gone this way is basically to control the masses, if you have intelligent entertainers that don't follow the script, they're more likely to make you think & be happy which is a threat to corporate capitalism. The elite need obedience, division and hatred to remain in power.

You can take this one of two ways. A. Lee Evans is so funny, he doesn't need a great deal of structured material B. Take away the silly faces and the sweating, and his act is a bit crap. Either way, saying someone is funny then adding 'FACT' at the end doesn't mean anything. You and plenty of others find him funny, and that's great. I'm not that bothered abput him either way, and I'm surr some people hate his work. It just goes to shpw that there are probably no 'facts' when it comes to comedy, just subjective opinion.

Terrific deconstruction of comedy. Plus, those laughs. I'd forgotten how ridiculous Frankie's was.

31:30 seen both of em live doin 15/20 min at the stand and they were both great, the reason frankie laughed so loud was that the stand is a strict no heckling club. I even saw dylan moran one night who forgot he had a show so we all waited an hour and a half for him to make the rest of his trip from Edinburgh. He still got clapped on, in a venue with maby 50 chairs and a tiny bar, he got clapped off after 8mins cause of a heckler nobody heard then a light nobody saw. Put it this way, my we sis still got an autograph along side afew folk after the show. Its a very friendly place to go to.

There IS feedback in live music. Not much in 2017. But in the 1990's, i samll venues, it was all live feedback. Lovely.
