I think it's true to say. All the best funny men are gone now. But they will never be forgotten. Their comic genius will live on forever. I feel so privileged to have lived through a time when the likes of Frankie Howerd were regulars on TV and always on in our house while growing up. The days of real entertainment.

Loved the way this totally clever and funny man could soo easily hold the audience. His timing was spot-on as were those long and drawn-out jokes. Fantastic entertainer.

The greatest standup in the English language. Career over 60 years. Idolized by the students towards the end. No swearing. Broke every rule of comedy. Unequalled. RIP Sir Francis.

Frankie Howerd broke every rule in stand up as Clive Anderson put it. A comedy genius like Tommy Cooper but didn’t have to do gags in order to get the audience laughing.

+TheHannible His audience spent decades wondering exactly the same thing. Lovable closeted gay uncle persona, which became ever more poignant in the liberated seventies when people started becoming more relaxed and less judgmental about a person's sexual preferences.
@jessiejames74928 жыл бұрын
+Rex Mundi I prefer the old days. people kept quiet about their sexual orientation if it was something other than heterosexual. These days its all too vulgar..And I do believe gay/women who have children by adoption or surrogate are doing those children a grave injustice. They deserve to know what a heterosexual orientation is too...How would you expect them to grow up to be...? naturally theyll lean towards homosexuality or lesbianism...Thats all they know. And when they go to school theyll have 2 dads while other children have a dad and a mum. Slam me if you want ...

I did read somewhere on here his manager had to bribe some news paper hack not to print a story about him being gay cuz it would ruin his career. Thing is I recon every one knew he was gay, the UK audience loved him I dont think they would have given a flying shit. I loved him realy thought he was the best.
