@@blue-sc1se - there are good songs in every genre - but what I didn't like about many disco songs was the dulling of emotion - there was a superficiality, a sense that one didn't care one way or the other. I think that it was supposed to reflect the anonymity and loneliness of big cities where no one really knew you or cared to really know anyone too deeply. Even Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb had more feeling behind it - more awareness somehow.
@blue-sc1se

@@vaudreelavallee3757 Well, I see why you might feel that way just listening to disco music, but for me as a young man spending way too much time in night clubs back then, it brings back memories. This was the main social activity and way to meet ladies. Had some crazy times!
@vaudreelavallee3757
@vaudreelavallee3757 5 жыл бұрын
@@blue-sc1se - it was the richer kids that were into discos - the drinks cost more there and the clothes that looked like lingerie and full slips were expensive. Love at First Bite epitomises the shallow indifferent to the world attitude of the disco era. She agreed to be a vampire because she didn't want to age, did not want to self-reflect, and liked to sleep during the day anyway. It was one endless party.

I had to look at a couple of things. Frankie Valli was Italian heritage, you saw him with an Afro hairdo, don't get mad it was 1975. Ok I kept say this is an older song the video was showing. When when Frankie was actively touring the group was Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons. When this video was shot it was only the 4 Seasons and Frankie made the song what it is so they had him record it and hype it with them. The first time Oh What a Night was released was December 1963. As I already I said what I listened to was in 1975. I didn't check his age, but Frankie was getting up there in years. He didn't use his falsetto voice, but you know that's how it goes.

Frankie Valle & The Four Seasons stepped out of their comfort zone to do this song. I enjoyed this song as a youth in the 70s. BTW, way back when all songs came from another! Church songs included! My Country Tis Of They is the same time as God Save The Queen. Our National Anthem was originally a pub tune! The ABC song, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Baa Baa Black Sheep....all the same tune! Sweet Little Sixteen and Surfin USA....same tune!

I was 12 years old when "December 1963 (Oh What a Night)" hit No. 1 in the spring of 1976. It was my best friend Jeanne's and my favorite song (we both bought the 45 vinyl record when it came out) because we were both born in late December 1963! LOL. And for some reason, some radio deejay started playing a remix of it (with more of a danceable drum beat) on the air 17 years later in 1993-94, and the song caught on and spread across the nation once again and reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 during its second chart run. As 30-year-olds, we both bought cassette singles of the song the second time around. :-)

I saw Frankie Vali perform live in the late 70’s or early 80’s. It was during the period that Frankie was trying to work off the gambling debt of one of his former bandmates and was touring like a dog to ensure the guy didn’t get “offed“ by the mob. I didn’t know that at the time, but learned it from watching Jersey Boys live and in film several times. “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” is my favourite FV song.
