My theory is introverts without social anxiety (and some with social anxiety) can be extraverted when pretending to be someone else. Nothing about being introverted says you can't be a good actor.
@Seca953 жыл бұрын
I’m an introvert (INFJ) with social anxiety, and you are right about the “pretending to be someone else” part. I hate that about myself. I know this is a common trait of INFJs too (the “can be mistaken for an extrovert”-trait), but I always feel uncomfortable afterwards when I have been trying to make a good impression by playing extroverted to hide my social anxiety when I meet new people. Then my introversion (drained energy) and social anxiety slowly take over, and I can see the confusion in people’s faces - like “wait, weren’t you all confident and talkative that first day, what is this silence and awkwardness now??”. And some people will even treat you like you’re a hypocrite (my former colleague whom I’m guessing is an ISTJ, for instance). It’s so frustrating😔 why can’t I just be myself - feel comfortable in my own quiet skin? Learning about my type has helped me a lot, though, because I’ve learned that this is partly because it’s an INFJ thing. But only partly, of course, as the impact of social anxiety is huge.

@@Seca95 I'm an INFJ too and a lot of people seem to be surprised when I revealed I am an introvert because I always display the humorous and talkative side of myself. Some even accused me of lying. I always considered myself a “confident introvert.” I’m very chill, low pride (meaning I don’t get embarrassed, but typically laugh when my screw ups cause others to laugh), bubbly happy, which fuels my ADHD energy making me easily excitable. I’m not shy, so I have no trouble talking to people when I’m around them. I’ll even start conversation because I’m here and may as well make the most of it. I’m positive and very confident of who I am as a person. My father taught me that the opinions of people who don’t care about me don’t matter. However, I’m 100% content with staying home, and will most likely say no to impromptu “wanna go somewhere?” I keep a very small, selective group of people I call friends, I live for deeper conversation, I sit in quiet and chill when by myself or around others with low energy. Cacophony of people and noise is a no thanks. I don’t willing go to large events, but if I do, I need someone I can focus on to block others out, else I’ll find a nice corner to draw in. I typically don’t stress in crowd because I’ve learned coping habits. When picking who to hang out with, I prefer low energy people, at least not overwhelming. I have people I’ll always hang out with because they’re not exhausting, and for an exhausting group, I have to deem if I’m prepared for them. So long as I have an ability to escape a social event whenever I want, I can comfortably stay until I’m done. Because of my confidence and energetic joy, people mistake me for an extrovert all the time.
@dania77163 жыл бұрын
I actually feel like I have found my clone!!!! Omg I'm exactly the same!!! My parents tell me to care about others opinions, but I discovered that being myself drains my energy least! 6:50 Nooo, I’m an extrovert and I used to get embarrassed easily too. Well, I think it’s actually based on each of the extroverts previous experiences. Mine was because I used to get dismissed by some people in my life and that hurts. Because I didn’t get the attention that I was craving for after they left me. And it somehow leads to a minor anxiety problem, that might looks like an embarrassment. By the way, it was back then when I was tested out as a turbulent extrovert. It has changed after I am surrounded by the right people and gaining more confidence overtime. I came to test again and it turns out that I became an assertive extrovert. So, my bet is that extrovert vs introvert neuroticism really matters

Aww that sucks. I’m an ENFP who doesn’t feel embarrassed in the moment because I am oblivious to and just don’t know how to read social cues- and unlike INFP’s or INTP’s my Ne is completely unfiltered so I just say whatever idea that has popped into my head, and embrace all my weird oblivious to people around me.

SAME. I'm an ENFP and the anxiety and fear it causes me...for instance, I can easily command a room. But then when I realize a crowd of people are watching me intently for the punchline of my joke/story...I'm like oh god SELF AWARENESS. Then I would either leave or crumble. Then I have embarrassed flashbacks/reminders when people bring up the joke/story to me when it wasn't that important to me, which gives me more anxiety that people are just thinking about me?? Honestly I'm probably E because I can dominate a room without thinking about it but I have to be comfortable with them, otherwise I'm nervous wallflower I type all the way, I always skip parties for that reason! Tbh though I was mostly thinking of how I, an avid reader, nerd and comic book artist, could convince them all that I really am an extrovert 🥲 It’s hard finding peeps to do karaoke with you when all your friends are nerds and artists

Yea looks may be decieving though, I pretty much act that way in certain circumstances and some colleagues have been baffled to find out I'm an introvert... What they don't see though, is how hard I crash afterwards. I can get that way when drunk+tired+with close friends as well, but that happens about every other year or so... /INTP

I'd totally win this. Lol I'm an INFJ that teeters close to the middle between I and E. I can appear extroverted when I want to, but then spend several days (or weeks after a big event, like a concert, festival, or Christmas) hiding reading books, watching videos, and sleeping. Lol

I think this just goes to show how much more there is to your personality beyond being and introvert or extrovert. Everyone is their own person no mater any test they might take or labels the pay may give themselves. If nothing else this video showed that their is always more to a person and their personality then you can know when first meeting them.

I like how you are taking more from KZbin pop culture (Hot Ones, now Odd Man Out). Keep doing this. 🙂 This just proves what I already knew. It's really hard to tell a true introvert from a true extrovert because it's more of a feeling process than a behavior process (feeling drained vs feeling energized around people). There is this guy who is high up at a former employer who I assumed was an introvert. The company sponsored this MBTI expert to come in and assess us all. I just assumed he would be an IxTx because of his behavior. When I asked, he slowly said his letters (E...N...F...P) as if to give me time to respond to each one. I was so surprised over the E and F. Then there were Ixxx cowokers who never shut up. The whole process was eye opening to me.

Extroverts do read! I'm an extrovert but, I spend the bulk of my time with my nose in a book. I usually stay up till 2-ish reading. However if you confront me with total nonfiction, (that isn't an interesting reference book) I will run away. -ENFP 📚

I've noticed specifically INFJs do get embarrassed about stuff so much! INFJs be like, "oh God this was so embarrassing, I didn't know how to do this thing I'd never done before, I must be an idiot." Or "I smiled in this weird way, I'm sure they noticed and think I'm a freak" and I'm like "I'm sorry you find that embarrassing. I think you might just be overly judgmental of yourself though." As an ENFP raised by an INFJ, I have this weird background voice awareness that my mom would find things embarrassing, and (as Nathan Glass would put it) meta feelings wondering whether I should be embarrassed about more things than I am. So instead I just have anxiety but generally not embarrassment haha

What makes for introversion is energy. I’m one of those introverts who can talk to people and socialize just fine, but I can’t do that for long periods of time because it’s mentally and physically draining for me. I also work in customer service so introverts are capable of dealing with the public too. But that’s why you had me convinced about Alaa, I felt like she was the introvert and she was overcompensating so she could win some money.

I'm an ENTP, but depending on my mood I can be completely quiet and just observing a conversation going around in a bigger group. A lot of people who don't know me very well think I am an introvert. I can also spend a lot of time by myself, but I don't get bored...but I consistently type as ENTP (I even changed a few of my answers sometimes, but still get the same result: ENTP 🤣).

And, looking back, it also makes sense that Elysia is an introvert, considering her job, a director. To me being a director is more about taking in than putting out. A film director has to think about how things look and feel to other people. At least, that's what I think.

I don't really think this is so easy. I am very much an introvert, but I do like to socialize and I can socialize somewhat well for somewhat extended periods of time. But that being said after a certain period of time I can no longer enjoy a social experience. If I'm one-on-one with someone that I know really well this could be more than 12 hours before I start to get really to the point where I'm like okay, I need to get away from this now, but if I'm in a group of 3 or 4 especially if there's some people in the group that I don't know very well I'm gonna wear myself out after less than 2 hours. Regardless I need some alone time to recover before I'm around people again for any prolonged time frame.
