I loved this show when I was in my early teens growing up in Los Angeles. Use to go to Shelly’s club all the time! Great times growing up!😎😎

Shelly Manne and His Men Live at The Blackhawk 1-4 are four perfect jazz LPs from the is era. This could easily have been on it

Saw Richie Kamuca with The Bill Berry Big Band, at the Concord Jazz Festival in 1976. Don Menza was the other tenor. Got some nice 35mm slides (K64) of that concert.

I only came across these when I married my husband who idolised Shelly Manne and I'm so glad he brought these musicians to my attention. No other jazz group to match them. By the time we got to San Francisco in 1976 it had all come to an end which was so sad. Still we have all the albums.

Thelonious Monk's "Straight no chaser" performed by Conte Candoli (trumpet), Richie Kamuca (tenor sax), Russ Freeman (piano), Monte Budwig (bass), and Shelly Manne (drums), in this 1962 broadcast.

What a fine swingin' group. Kamuca is much under-appreciated. Love that West Coast aethetic.

This could be called "Vierd Blues," or is that name already taken?
